CHAPTER 3

1130 Words
Everybody went up at once towards Mrs Lauryn’s spot to see if she had been shot or not. “Dear” “Gracie” “In-law” “Mummy” Everyone was worried, calling the name they used to call her. There was no trace that she had been shot, but she was lying half dead. “Let's take her to the hospital” They stood on the road asking for help to take Mrs Lauryn to the hospital. After about 15 minutes, someone stopped by to help them take Mrs Lauryn to the hospital. The car could only take two more people, together with the driver and Mrs Lauryn. Mr Mike and Mr Tom decided to go with her to the hospital. “Is she still alive?” Mr Tom inquired while the nurses were receiving her into the hospital. “Let's do her job sir.” One of the nurses responded. The doctors on duty were alerted of an emergency case, and they swung into action immediately. Mr Mike was speaking to himself. Sobbing. “I hope she's alive” “I hope so too.” Mr Tom responded to him, also very worried about his sister. “She should not have engaged them.” “She obviously did not care about her life” “That was too risky.” “I hope she makes it.” Mr Tom didn't respond. The two of them don't know what to expect. While they were waiting to hear from the doctor, a call came in for Mr Mike. “Hello, is that Mr Mike?” “Yes, I am” “How may I help you?” Prior to this time, Mr Mike did not take unknown calls on his line, but he halted the decision because of his daughter who had been whisked away. He knew the kidnappers would likely reach out to him concerning his daughter and they did. “We need 10 million dollars from you to take care of your daughter” Jittering on the phone, Mr Mike responded. “That is no problem sir. How do I get it across to you?” “A USDT cryptocurrency wallet address will be sent to you immediately after this call, that is where to send it” “You are expected to send it within 24 hours” “Noted sir! How do I get her after sending the money, sir?” “Get what?” “m my dau.. daughter sir!” Mr Mike was stuttering and terribly scared. “I thought I told you the money was meant to take care of your daughter, and not to release her to you.” “We are her adopted parents for now.” “Are you clear?” “Yes..s sir!” Mr Mike sighed so loudly at what he had just heard. His thought was that his daughter was about to be released after paying the requested money. Depressed about the news, at the same time, not knowing what will become of his wife as he eagerly waits to hear from the medical team attending to her. Mr Mike slumped! Thankfully, Mr Tom was proactive in instantly calling for medical attention. God knows maybe if he had been in the hospital environment, he may not have survived. “Help, help, help-” Uncle Tom was screaming for attention. Immediately, a stretcher was brought to move him in for quick medical attention. When that happened, the medical head of the hospital, Dr Lawson, summoned Uncle Tom to an emergency discussion in his office. “Nice meeting you sir. What is your name sir?” “Thanks doc. I am Tom Giggs." “Who are you to the patients?” “I am a brother to Mrs Lauryn Desmond and in-law to Mr Mike Desmond” “I see,” Dr Lawson responded. “The couple seem to have been traumatized. Is that correct?” “Yes, you are on point, doctor. What happened to both of them was a traumatic experience that parents should never witness with their child.” “What is it, Mr Tom?” “Their only child was kidn*pped some few hours ago at gunpoint” “The merciless display of the kidnappers was the reason for their trouble” “Oh! What a world," Dr Lawson responded. “We went to Stanford, USA to surprise their only daughter who graduated from Stanford University yesterday.” “While we were returning from Pretoria Airport, we were accosted by the criminals!” “Our driver was killed on the spot.” “We thought Mrs Lauryn had been shot because she was careless with her life, fighting with the criminals to free her daughter.” “That was the reason we brought her to your hospital, only for her husband to be called on the phone by the criminals demanding a humongous amount of money, $10 million to take care of their kidn*pped daughter and not even to release her yet.” “The kidnappers claimed that they are the adopted parents of their only daughter now.” “All of that coupled with not knowing what to expect from the medical examination of his wife were responsible for what had happened”. “What a pathetic story!” Dr Lawrence responded after carefully listening to Mr Tom's narration. “I am so sorry, Mr Tom.” “It was medically observed that both of them went into shock. That was why the medical doctors that attended to them thought to involve me when it was learned that they were both husband and wife.” “I can confirm to you that they are in a stable state now. However, we would not want them engaged by anyone for now”. “You can see them but don't try to talk to them”. “They will be fine.” “I am so grateful, Doctor.” “You are welcome, Mr Tom.” “The money requested by the kidnappers is huge” “How would you get that resolved?” “The money is not really the problem. The problem is that they should free her when the money is provided because she is so special to us all.” Mr Tom thought about continuing relating with the kidnappers given the 24-hour ultimatum they gave Mr Mike to send 10 million dollars worth of crypto to them. Mr Mike and his wife are on bed rest and the doctor warned that they should not be disturbed. However, when he tried to get in contact with the last person that spoke with him on the phone, who was one of the kidnappers, he discovered that his phone was locked.
