CHAPTER 5

“Eat your food Joyce” “Be free! At least with me, it may be impossible with others, but I want you to be free with me.” “I know it is difficult for you to be away from your comfort zone, but such is life." These were Brandon's words of encouragement to Joyce just so that she could be relaxed. For days, Joyce didn't say a word to anyone, she didn't eat, she can't imagine how life had turned out for her. She was only speaking to herself. “How are my parents fearing?” “How are they taking this?” “I can't imagine the trauma they would be going through because of me.” “This is cruelty!” Fear couldn't allow her to ask to speak with her parents on the phone because, to her, Brandon's care for her is fake. In her mind, “can you care for me and kidnap me?” After a few days, when she could no longer bear starvation, she requested water and food. She wanted to eat to live. Joyce had lost about 18kg in weight because she had not eaten since she was captured. “Can I have some food please?” Joyce told Brandon. Without hesitation, Brandon was ready to jump out to get her whatever she wanted to eat. “What food would you like to take?” No sound, no sign. After about 2 minutes, Brandon left to get her food at his discretion. Meanwhile, the gang members do not want to mess with her because of their plan of using her as a means to get money from her dad regularly. They want her relaxed with the best of treatment. As far as they know, she is the best customer they ever had. When she appears to be getting used to the environment, she summons courage to ask the gang to speak with her parents. “Could you please let me speak with my parents?” “You can't speak with them!” Karae and Anelka responded roughly to her. “Please allow me.” “It is not about us. Both of them are hospitalized, and they can't communicate with you for now.” Brandon calmly responded to her. “What happened to my dad and my mum?” “Which hospital are they?” The other gang members reacted harshly to Brandon's unprofessional relationship with Joyce so that he would not put them in trouble. “How dare you, Brandon?” Anelka shouted at him. “What is this nonsense you are doing with this girl?” “Do you want us to lose her? Even if her parents are no more, we can still achieve her aim with her because she's from a rich family.” “How could you give such a detailed explanation to her?” “In fact, you will cease to stay with her. I am taking your place immediately.” “No boss, that is not right. How can you be the one to stay with her? That will be degrading, boss”, Akuna responded to Anelka while Karae nodded in agreement. Meanwhile, Joyce also does not want Anelka to come an inch close to her because she detastes everything about him. “I don't care. The verdict takes effect immediately.” While the other gang members couldn't understand why boss Anelka wanted to be with the victim, Brandon was aware of his plans. Joyce became worried that something bad may have happened to her parents since they were both hospitalized. Unfortunately, the person she could ask more about has been asked to vacate her place. Brandon knew how terrible Anelka could be to victims. He knew he could harm Joyce and even r**e her. So, whenever Brandon had the opportunity to see Joyce one-on-one, he would tell her. “Scream on top of your voice to alert us should you suspect any harm from him” Joyce started believing Brandon that he had her interest at heart. In no distant time, Anelka began to show her true character to Joyce. From professing love to her to threatening to kill her, to making s****l advances on her, and threatening to kill her if she refused to cooperate with him. “I think I should heed the advice Brandon gave me about this guy.” “He may want to carry out his threats soon.” “Jesus, save me!” Joyce was speaking to herself. Meanwhile, the agreement between the gang members was that Joyce should be taken care of because she is worth 100 victims to them. However, Brandon knew Anelka could be dangerous, especially when he is high to truncate the plan. That was the reason he told Joyce to scream if she suspected any rough handling from Anelka so that the other gang members, including himself, could have reason to review the decision of Anelka staying with her. Brandon is the only one that does not drink or smoke among the gang members. Even Newton, who works as a chef in the Desmond Pretoria house, discreetly smokes and drinks often. “I think I will have to scream the next time he comes here whether he is threatening or not.” Joyce had reasoned out her plans in her mind because she wanted Anelka to be far from her. “Help, help, help. Please help me” Joyce waited for a perfect time when Anelka was drunk so that she could be, justified when she screamed for help as advised by Brandon. “What is the problem?” Brandon, Karae and Akuna were simultaneously asking what the problem was with Joyce.” “He wanted to r**e me.” Joyce put up a make-believe cry. The opportunity that Brandon had been waiting for had finally come. Brandon turned to his Akuna and Karae. “I told you this guy cannot be trusted. He's a s**t!” “Calm down Brandon, you are talking to the boss.” “Let's give the boss the opportunity to clear himself.” Karae insisted. Akuna refused. “No, don't let us prolong this matter. We all know Boss can do it!" Anelka acted as the boss because he knew the importance of making Joyce comfortable as their high-paying client. Anelka knew he had messed up with Joyce even though he didn't disturb her when she alerted others to come for him. “I have nothing to say. I am sorry.” This was the only statement Anelka was saying intermittently. “What do we do now?” Brandon asked so that the other gang members would agree to allow him to return to stay with Joyce. Joyce had also been longing for Brandon to return to her because he appeared to be the most decent among the gang. Karae said to the gang. “I don't like looking out for victims.” “Even me.” Akuna affirmed Karae’s statement. “I prefer Brandon.”
