As Derek sat there watching her curse under her breath, he realized the absurdity of him coming here. Practically, they are not friends. And she just opened the door for him just like that? He doesn't understand the way she thinks. Such an odd girl.
Derek received a message from his assistant, and passed his phone for her to see. "Looks like your cousin aren't over the fact that her fiance was once yours,"
Elaine glanced at the phone, and Derek raised his brows. She seemed annoyed to hear it from him, more than surprised.
"You knew?"
"The family lawyer insist that I must be present for the will reading. I knew it'd bring me more trouble than good," she scoffed. Elaine looked at her phone and then she suddenly looked at him, as if only realizing his presence.
"Why are you here, anyways?" she frowned.
Derek shrugged. "I happen to be here, and your reporters blockade surrounded the whole lobby."
He'd read her files, and though it's not apparent, he had hunches about what's going on, along with the fact that she just now said that her scandal is planned.
"What about that picture?"
Elaine's face turned weird. "It's those freaking p*****t guest the host invited. They must've walked in to the backstage at the show. Enough with them looking when they're not even allowed to be there, now they also take pictures. Men," she muttered with despise.
Derek raised his brows, "You're a model. Isn't that how you earn? Selling your body to be looked at?"
Elaine snapped her head at him, and he was waiting to hear her retort but instead, she turned her face away. "Why doesn't it surprise me to hear you say that?" she scoffed.
"Then again, you're probably one of those men who likes staring at little girls' body," Elaine rolled her eyes.
The modeling industry is a harsh world. Some had their passion there, and to some, it's the only industry they could rely on. Simply speaking, how are they expected to leave the job they loved just because a whacked morality of some human? The Industry needed to change, not the models.
"Listen, there's always underage girls on the runway, relying on their looks to bring food on their table, because they doesn't have enough education to get a legal job anywhere. They gives permission for the crew, the photographers, basically every internal, to look at their body, if they must. But these guys-" she pointed at her phone -"Are just guest. Their place, is at the runaway stage seats, not on the backstage. It's a freaking dress, and outerwear runaway. Not an adult magazine photo shoot. What made you think they had right to stare at their bodies? Because they're wealthy businessman, as you are?"
Derek's face changed. Much to his displease towards models, he didn't think the industry would be as crooked. He thought each one of them are happily showing off their body, but he did realize that there's much more than bikinis to be staged at the runway.
"We politicians family-"
Elaine chuckled bitterly. "Businessman couldn't even beat politicians. They're clean at front, and rotten on the inside. Businessman, despite their behaviors, their business has different fundamentals. It could be easily out looked as they're merely owners, or an asshole with genius brain. Politics played everything silently because they needed to have a good front to have the public's support." Elaine declared her thoughts openly without of being afraid of offending him.
Derek scoffed at her, trying not to smile at her retorts. The other girls he had dated, as smart as they appeared to be, still walks a fine line, trying not to offend him. They never tell their opinions openly as she does, and just follow along like a little puppy. Even puppies could bark, much to say. He ditched them one by one just before they could expect too much when he couldn't even stand them much longer.
"Are you still going to the will reading? Need a lift?"
Elaine looked at him with calculating look. "Nothing comes for free. What do you want?"
She figured since he'd shown up on her doorstep, there must be something he had in mind, especially now that he offered to give her a lift. As a businessman, there's no way he'd do something out of charity.
Derek didn't expect her to think that way. However now that he'd been given the chance, the decided, it's not a bad idea to just ride along with it. It gives him more covering. "Very well. I'd like to know some dirt on the Harris. There must be way to get the Greg's tail out of my business, and My assistant has reported seeing you walking around the Astro-corp office?"
Elaine frowned at him. and sipped on her freshly brewed tea, serving an extra glass for him on second thought. From his question, Elaine isn't sure if he had figured it out or not, but he would too, sooner or later, so she decided to spill it instead.
"I own majority of the company. There's that. And if you wanted to handle the gregs, wouldn't it be easier to find their dirt instead of the Harris'? They're bunch of cunning people, I doubt you'll even get a thing," she told him, sipping on her tea.
"One more thing, if Erick Harris come to you, ignore him. That man couldn't reap a single profit. You'll just lose your money," she added.
"Now, do you think you could drop me off somewhere near Ferris hotel?"
Derek raised his brows on Ferris hotel. The Ferris hotel of the Harrington family? What is a little heiress doing in the modeling world? He finished the tea and nodded. "Give me fifty percent of Astro and It's a deal."
Elaine glared at him. "Forty-five, that's top. Otherwise, I'm fine with leaving on my own."
Elaine doesn't really care about the reporters, she has her own proofs. However, she's too lazy to deal with them, which is the only reason she'd consider his offer. If only it isn't for her grandfather, she wouldn't have bothered with all these, considering it's a last wish.
Derek only walked out her room in silence, and Elaine followed him. Elaine's wearing a sunglasses and styled decently that she looked like a pair with Derek in his customized suit. But little did they know a hotel crew had taken a picture of them, and soon, another news has replaced the highlight.
