-NIA’S POV-
All my insecurities started drumming up, and my anxiety flew through the roof. Every part of me began shaking, but I had to see it to truly believe it.
Slowly, I ascended the other five steps that brought me to the closed attic door. Grunts and moans continued in a jamboree.
“You've been riding this d**k for ten minutes.” The man groaned. “Milk my f*****g cock.”
“Hmm.”
My shaky hands reached for the door handle. I took in a deep breath before I turned the lever and gradually opened the door to my heartache.
There he was.
From a side view, Dalton sat on the couch naked, his head laid back on the backrest. He had his eyes closed as Brooke, my best friend and the Beta's sister, straddled him, grinding and rapidly bouncing her naked body on him.
Slapping sounds accompanied her moans. On the floor was a bottle of Baileys and their black clothes and underwear scattered in several directions. I stumbled backwards trying to keep my footing.
Although there were no chest pains in the bond, which I have yet to understand, my heart broke into a million pieces.
“Yo―.” I struggled to find my voice. No words would come past my throat as I tried to break up the debauchery. Five seconds passed for me to gain some control over my panicking heart and body tremors.
Finally, I clenched my hands. My entire body stiffened as I mustered my strength and just screamed. “Ah!”
Dalton’s head jolted up and snapped open his wide eyes to look at me in shock. Brooke halted her s****l act and whipped her head towards me.
Then all I got was a ferocious growl from the two-timing, cheating bastard in front of me.
“Can't you see that we're busy?” Brooke barked at me. Annoyance was written plainly on her face. “Get out of here!”
Dalton pushed her off him. She fell on her bum with legs apart. Disbelief overtook her features.
“Why?” Misty-eyed, I asked him with my stomach twisting vigorously.
Dalton stood, naked. His d**k was apparently now dead. “Get my clothes.” He growled at Brooke.
She crawled on the floor, gathering their scattered attire.
I stepped closer to him. “Dalton, what's this?”
“Are you so dumb that you can't understand?” Brooke's snide remark came as she rose from the floor with the pile of clothes in her hands.
Dalton growled at her. To me, he said, “What should I tell you, Nia? Hmm? That this isn’t me f*****g another woman? That I’m a clone of your mate? Or that I tripped and fell into her p***y?”
My mind was scrambled from shock, and I was at a loss for words.
Brooke handed him his clothes. He took them, throwing the bulk on the couch but keeping the boxers in his hand. The other woman was busy glaring at me while clipping the back of her bra.
“You're my mate, Dalton,” I whined. “Why would you hurt me like this, again? And Brooke has her mate.”
Dalton pushed his muscular legs through his boxers, too busy getting dressed to acknowledge me.
Brooke took the opening to add, “Because you were never going to be Luna. I'm the one he's going to mark. I'm the one he told his parents about, and he’s been between my legs at every chance he got.”
“I’m not talking to you!” I retorted. My heart constricted. My breathing got heavier.
“He’s my mate!” She lashed back, coming at me with her dress in her hand. Dalton’s palm connected to her chest, stopping her.
Right now, my world was crumbling, and I was falling apart with it. I wanted him to deny everything to set things right again. There must be some explanation for this. I moved directly in front of Dalton as he donned his black pants.
“So you have one woman pregnant while you are making promises to others,” I puled.
“Pregnant?” Brooke asked, startled. “What is she talking about, Dalton?”
“Nia’s a liar. Don’t you know that now?” He denied it while glaring at me. “You are such a pretentious bitch.”
“In what way?” I sobbed.
He laughed, darkly. “This is exactly what you deserve.”
He grabbed his purple shirt and black jacket and stormed from the attic.
I ran after him, almost stumbling. “Dalton, wait!”
Ignoring me, his large strides kept him ahead of me as he descended the stairs, down the hallway, and towards the scanty crowd in the house.
“Dalton, don't leave.” I cried, hastening my steps.
Suddenly he stopped and swiveled around. He grabbed me by the arms, tugging me against his chest.
He dipped his head to whisper in my ears through gritted teeth. “My parents are here. Do not make a f*****g scene.”
I glanced around and located them by the foyer, grabbing their coats to leave. While Luna Francine socialized with one of the seniors, Alpha Harrison stood proudly by her graceful form, lifting her black strands up while helping her to put on her white mink coat. He was Dalton's older, incredibly attractive, strapping, and towering counterpart. Although Dalton was more handsome, two inches taller and more imposing in stature.
The Alpha family knew every pack member. I was glad that they made an appearance. After all, my Dad was Alpha Harrison’s Beta.
However, Brooke joined us, fully dressed in her velvet black dress with a plunging neckline. She hollered. “Luna Francine, Alpha Harrison.”
She passed us, went over to them, and engaged in a conversation.
Dalton and I held eye contact. His blues were hard and callous.
“Is any of what she said true?” I croaked out, searching his eyes. “Do you love me at all?”
He muttered, angrily. “I've had enough of you, Nia. You act so damn innocent that it makes me sick.”
“Dalton, why are you holding that woman like that in front of your mate?” Alpha Harrison’s cold ocean-blue eyes looked me up and down, contemptuously.
Luna Francine sighed in disgust, “Do not try to use your grief to seduce my son.”
Brooke wore a smirk on her lips. She was by Dalton's side in an instant, pulling him away from me. “Darling, come.”
When I realized he was leaving my house, I pulled his arm. “Dalton, we need to talk.”
“Look, Nia, you're a prude in the bedroom, so f*****g boring. Your head game is lame, and he's never satisfied. Plus, the way your deformed ears twitch during s*x is a super turn-off. He comes to me right after. Now let go of my man.” Brooke lowly ridiculed, still pulling at him.
My wolf bristled at the disrespect. “That’s a lie.”
“Didn’t he make you cut all ties with your friends and then ignore you?” She pulled him harder. “Well, the entire time he was f*****g me. Yes, he tells me how much better and tighter I am than you while he f***s me deep and hard.”
“Shut up!” I lashed out, unrelenting his arm. Her words were shattering me to bits. I didn’t want to believe her.
Dalton stood in the middle of a tug-of-war, getting highly irritated. He yanked his arms upwards to escape our clutches. “Enough!” His voice roared over the mellow music and friendly chatter.
At this point, everyone’s attention was on us. The atmosphere shifted. The room broke out in whispers. People began gathering around. His parents were not pleased. An amused Beta and Gamma descended the stairs.
