CHAPTER TWO

1877 Words
Breakups are never easy, and Ember was having a tough time dealing with it. It drastically impacted her academic performance, and her demeanor had become noticeably worse. The brilliant Ember could hardly concentrate in class or even visit her favorite library. She barely spoke to anyone and spent most of her time alone in her room. Ember's life had taken an unexpected turn, leaving her feeling lost and alone. She lost her appetite and even the simple act of eating felt like a chore. She stopped having dinner with her family, preferring to retreat to the solitude of her room, where she could wallow in her misery. Ember had always been an avid user of social media, but lately, her feed had become a source of torment for her. Every time she logged on, she was inundated with pictures of Perry, her ex-boyfriend, posing happily with different girls in his new college. The images felt like a constant reminder of what she had lost, and it was too painful to bear. So she stopped using social media altogether, especially i********:, which used to be her favorite pastime. Ember's once bubbly and vivacious personality had given way to a dark and mournful demeanor. She had lost interest in everything and anything that once brought her joy. The things that used to make her laugh now felt meaningless. It was as if color had drained out of her life, leaving her feeling empty and blue. The days following her breakup were a nightmare. Perry was spotted with different girls every day in the neighborhood, and it infuriated her. “What went wrong?”…..“Why did I allow such a cheat into my life? My life was all fun and beautiful until this demon walked in” These thoughts kept running through her mind when she saw Perry one afternoon after school, leaning against a thin Latina, smooching her while they stood publicly by the black Benz C300, his father got for him as his graduation gift. “Shameless”……" I wonder if these girls knew what kind of demon he was," she added. She let out a hiss and vigorously rubbed her forehead in anger and frustration and doubled her pace to avoid being seen by Perry and what she described as a disgusting public display of affection. Several days passed and she kept seeing her demon all around the neighborhood with different girls. On every occasion, he would either be seen flaunting his car with a girl seated in the front seat, comfortably occupying the title that was bestowed on Ember when she was with Perry; the passenger princess…..or he would be seen at a corner, disgustingly smooching. On her way back to her house from her late-night strolls one Saturday, she saw the one person she despised the most in her life, in an alley, as usual, kissing and caressing the boobs of the Latina from before. Ember felt a mix of anger and sadness when she saw them. She pounced on the girl and pulled her hair so hard that her hair could literary fall off of her skull. The painful screams from the girls drew people around to the scene. Perry who was struggling to separate the two, firmly grabbed Ember’s wrist and pushed her away from the girl. Ember retaliated but Perry turned and slapped her hard. For a moment, Ember seemed to have lost her senses due to the intensity of the slap. She lay still on the ground until she felt the urge to pick herself up and go home. She cried herself to sleep that night and cursed the day she met Perry out of pain. She despised herself even more and thought of every reason to give up on herself and her dreams, and ever since, her pillow never passed a night without being soaked. Although Perry had not officially ended their relationship, His uncouthness towards Ember was the last straw for her. She was deeply hurt and she hated him the more and more with each passing breath but what she found hard to come to terms with was that her partner, Perry, was and had always been a deceitful person. Throughout their relationship, Perry had been lying to her and cheating on her with other girls in the neighborhood. “It's all my fault, I was blinded by love and thought he was the right one for me,” she said Ember blamed herself for letting Perry into her life and allowing him to hurt her. It was difficult for her to come to terms with the fact that she had lost Perry. He was her first love, probably, the first love theory is probably the reason behind her denial. “it’s difficult getting over your first love, there’s always going to be a memory of him” She needed a distraction from the adverse impact her life was facing so she called her friend to meet up with her. **** Ember was awoken by the direct rays of the sun on her face. She got out of bed and tried to draw the curtains to block the light, but in her half-asleep state, she accidentally hit her toes against an old Chesterfield and fell. Groaning in pain, she tried to stand up, but her movement almost woke up Emil, who was asleep on the bed where she slept. Adjusting his pillow for better comfort, Emil went back to sleep. When she finally opened her eyes, she was shocked to find herself naked on the floor of an unfamiliar room. She scanned the area, but nothing looked familiar. Emil's snoring only added to her confusion and fear. She got up and reached for the closest item to defend herself, a broken towel rail, and approached Emil intending to hit him with it. However, Ember's steps became weaker and faint, and she fell back to the ground, very dizzy and disoriented. Emil woke up to the sound of the towel rail falling on the floor and saw Ember lying there unconscious. He gave out a sigh and got up from the bed to cover her up. He lifted her to the bed and dashed into the washroom to wet a towel and wipe her face. Ember eventually regained consciousness after a few minutes but felt tired and weak. Emil was done taking a shower and was dressing up in front of his wardrobe which faced the window. The morning sun radiated on his skin, revealing his triceps and making him look strong and masculine. Ember couldn't help but admire his physique, though she was scared. Emil noticed her admiring him and whispered in a flirty tone......" Hey baby girl, how are you feeling this morning?" Ember, who was still confused and had no idea who he was, felt disgusted by his advances and pushed him away. “Who are you?” she asked. Emil chuckled… “There, take the painkiller beside you” he commanded pointing the pills on the bedside table . Ember defied the command…. “ I asked who are you?......and how did I get here?” she asked raising her voice. Emil looked at her with raised eyebrows and teased her ........“You don’t remember, huh?” He let out a faint giggle, furthering his advances towards her… “Probably your memory might have been erased due to last night’s pleasure or…… you are still under the influence of alcohol?….haha!.” Ember became furious and got up to dress up. However, her anger was so great that she could barely focus and it caused her legs to slip and tear underneath her sleek black leather trousers. Emil, who was calmly watching the whole time, rushed to her aid. “Hey relax! relax! ... fine, I’ll tell you who I am and you ended up in my bed” He chuckled teasingly. He introduced himself as ‘Emil’ and explained he had met her at the pub the previous night while she was drinking shots and a couple of beers but appeared lost and lonely, even though she was with her friend. Emil was sitting in a quiet corner, staring at Ember. She looked sad and lonely. He couldn't help but notice her beauty and lusted after her. Eventually, when Ember’s friend left, he decided to approach her. Emil told her that she seemed upset, and he was wondering if everything was okay. Ember was drunk and appeared vulnerable. She opened up to Emil and told him about how she was harassed by some shady guys. She asked him to take her home and that was how she ended up at his place. Ember sat in stunned silence as Emil recounted the details of what had happened in the bedroom the night before. She felt a tight knot form in her stomach as she struggled to process the magnitude of Emil's betrayal. When Emil was done speaking, she stood up abruptly and grabbed her bag, her movements swift and purposeful. She gave Emil a withering stare as she walked past him, her face a mask of anger and disappointment. "I asked my servants to arrange an Uber for you, it's waiting downstairs," Emil said, his voice low and contrite. His hands were in his pockets and staring lustfully at Ember’s butt as she walked away, but Ember didn't respond, already halfway out the door and eager to put as much distance between herself and Emil as possible. She walked out of the room, her footsteps heavy with the weight of her emotions. She was angry at Emil for what he had done, frustrated with herself for not seeing it sooner, and regretful that she had ever trusted him in the first place. All she wanted was to get home, to be in a safe and familiar place where she could process what had happened and start to heal. As she made her way down the stairs, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. She was free from Emil's grasp, and she could finally begin to move on with her life. Ember's tears streamed down her cheeks as she sat in the back seat of the car. The driver, who sensed her distress, handed her a tissue pack. “Thank you….” Ember accepted it gratefully, wiping away the tears that kept falling relentlessly. Her eyes were red and swollen, and her heart felt heavy with sadness. The driver didn't know what was wrong, but his kind gesture made her feel better. As she was dropped off at her house, Ember couldn't help but feel a deep sense of self-loathing. With each tear that fell, she cursed herself for all the mistakes she had made. And with every passing moment, her anger towards Perry grew stronger, blaming him for all the bad luck that had befallen her. She said, "If only I had seen the signs earlier, I could have avoided this misfortune. Ember switched off her phone and laid flat on her bed as she stared at the ceiling, and with each thought that crossed her mind, Ember hated herself the most, but little did she know that her life was about to take an unexpected turn.
