Chapter 9: Midnight and Magnolias
The sensor beeped softly in the darkened kitchen. Nikoloz flipped immediately to the proper screen before the noise woke anyone. At least, the children were supposed to be asleep. Neither of them had tried to sneak out of the house, at any rate. Dr. Yarborough had gone upstairs less than an hour ago, and might be still awake, but the dark circles underneath his eyes led Nikoloz to believe he probably wasn’t.
Nikoloz checked the screen and pulled out his communicator. “We have movement behind the garage. I will lock the house and try to flank them.”
“Rogers here. I’m in the garage. I’ll move out when you start the action.”
“Evans in the workshop. Jones and I will join you outside. Let’s let Sanders and Lowe sleep.”
“I’m awake.” Vincent’s voice was hoar
