Settling

    Time went by in a hurry for Kat, Kilene and Heather. Kat settled in and started working on her education. Instead of finding work they all settled into going to school and getting use to living without a pack. Living as werewolves within a human world. Kat was able to turn the assets she had into another name and into another account. Carefully Kat started investing her income and living off the interest of that income. Kilene had income coming in from inheritance she got from her grandparents and let Kat invest. Heather because of her low status within the pack struggled with her conscience and wouldn't let Kat or Kilene carry her so she got a job. Kat talked Heather into going to college and worked herself into a pretty good job from the contacts she made in school.

    The house they bought had three bedrooms on the second floor, a huge gourmet kitchen and a downstairs office, living room and dining room with a three car garage. Kat, Kilene and Heather bought themselves cars that were for working people that worked for them without all the flash of a luxury vehicle. Basically they all lived small. 

    As time went by they were able to recover from the heartache they all suffered from mates who rejected them and they avoided supernaturals. Now and then they would run into wolves but with careful planning they were able to avoid rogues and other supernaturals until one day it all came crashing down.

    Four years later

    Kat started a business as IT and hacking support for contracts with different businesses around Indiana going into Chicago and down into Kentucky. Travel became the norm for Kat and she was known as the Worm in the hacking world. Carefully working both sides of the web both the regular business and dark web Kat became wickedly good at hacking into businesses and creating her own brand of firewalls to protect businesses and hacking back into the businesses making sure that her firewall could hold out illegal foraging, protecting trade secrets, and robbing dark web sites such as p**n sites, drug dealers and etc. By doing this she was able to shut down illegal activities and clue the government in on those exploiting women and children. Many of Kat's contracts were with the US government and providing technical support for black ops units as an independent contractor. Along with the technical abilities Kat was able to keep track of her family and pack and stay one step ahead of the trackers trying to find the ladies that escaped. 

    One evening while working, Kat realized someone was trying to hack into her program so she put a tracer out on the hacker. Through careful work and the trace Kat found herself swearing under her breath. The hacker had mad skills and she was working fast and hard to try to stay ahead of the hacker. Finally after routing them through different servers in Europe, Asia and Russia and going back to Hong Kong, Kat found the hacker coming in from her old pack. Quickly Kat rerouted the hack and decided to hack back to see who was trying to get into her system. The hacker was in a shell company owned by Birch pack. Kat decided to put a face to the person hacking. Carefully she put the camera in her own computer on black out mode and then turned the cameras within the pack. The person hacking her was Leo, Kat's ex mate's brother. Kat watched him as he worked to discover who was behind Worm the hacker. After watching for a short time she went into Leo's system and asked, "Leo, what are you doing?" Leo was shocked! Worm knew who he was and what he was doing. He quickly started trying to get out of and block Worm from talking to him. "Nice try Leo but you can't stop what I have started here and you cannot block me out! Why are you trying to hack my system?" Leo finally wrote back, "I thought if I could get your attention you can help us find someone! I went to college and learned how to hack and thought maybe if I could get a hold of Worm he could find someone for me." "Who are  you looking for by the way that you had to try and contact Worm the best hacker?" asked Kat. Leo said, "Our pack has struggled. My brother rejected his mate Kat and chose that skank Shauna as a mate. Do you know what mates are? I heard from somewhere you are a supernatural and that you would be able to find my brother's rejected mate." "Why would you want to find our brother's rejected mate? It sounds like she escaped a bad situation and trying to find that reject is a waste of time! You need to move on." wrote Kat. In the meantime Kat yelled for Kilene and Heather to peer over her shoulder as she was typing out her messages to Leo. The silence in the room was deafening. Kilene finally looked at Kat and asked, "I wonder why they want you back?" Kat then started giggling and said, "Hang on let me check and I bet we can have some fun this one!" Kat then typed back, "So you have the hots for Kat huh?" Leo got flustered because about that time in walked Chase his brother and Brian. Leo looked at Brian and Chase and said, "Finally I got a hold of Worm the hacker but he isn't cooperating too good. How much should I offer to pay him for his services?" Chase and Brian looked at each other and said, 'Offer him a $5000 retainer and then if he can give us a good lead on Kat, Kilene and Heather we will give him $200,000." So Leo offered the amount to Worm the hacker. Kat, Kilene and Heather bust out laughing and and Kat said, "Well if they are that desperate lets sweeten the honey pot. This is a really good way to stay ahead of them and make some money!" So Kat finally wrote back, "Why would your brother want a rejected mate?" Leo looked at Brian and Chase and asked, "What should I tell him?" Chase looked at Brian and said, "Tell him that we made a mistake and want our mates back. The chosen mates we thought we wanted turned out badly for us and it has left us in a bad way?" So Leo wrote back, "The reasons are personal but according to my brother he made  a bad mistake and his chosen mate screwed him over. His best friend Brian wants his sister back and he had a mate he rejected and he wants a chance to try and start over again. All of us realized within a year that we had made a bad mistake and we want our family and mates back." Kat, Kilene and Heather looked in shock at each other and shut down their program quickly but before shutting down Kat typed to Leo, "You will get an answer within 24 hours. If you are serious about this you can cashap the money to this account Worm25@worminvestigations.com You will do this in increments of $1000 until the amount $5000 is reached. If you try to hack into where this account is located or who it belongs to the deal is off and I will hack back into your accounts and bleed  you dry! Understood!" Leo gulped, Brian and Chase looked at each other and told Leo to get out of the system. Kat, Kilene and Heather shut down the system after checking and making alarms were in place in case Leo or anyone else got stupid and hacked back into their system. 

    Chase, Brian and Leo looked at each other and said, "I know that Ed was killed by Shauna and it has hurt our pack. Uniting as friends in these circumstances is smart. We didn't know what we had until they were gone. We were fooled and thought Shauna and her friends were what our pack needed. Little did we know that Kat, Kilene and Heather were the ones doing the real work around here for which Shauna took the credit for and no wonder she wanted Kat, Kilene and Heather around to use. I didn't think they would run and that they would always be around! Our mates were stronger than we thought and they banded together and sure knew how to hide their trail!" Chase, Brian and Leo looked at each other and then Leo asked, "Why did Heather run?" Brian looked at Leo and finally said, "Heather is actually my mate. I didn't want her because I thought she was weak because of her omega status given to her by my dad." Leo finally looked at Brian and said, "By the way did you know who Heather's family was?" Brian looked at Leo in confusion, "who?" "According to what my mom told me there was a pack that was completely destroyed by rogues back about 20 years ago except for a woman and her daughter. That woman is Heather's mother and she was the daughter of the alpha of that pack! Heather comes from alpha blood but because of who her father was my dad thought it best she stayed hidden. Out of spite my dad gave that woman omega status because he wanted that woman as his mistress and she said no. Dad didn't want Heather getting this status and encouraged Shauna to treat Heather this way. Oh and Heather is what they call a dire wolf. This is a rare breed of wolf that doesn't exist too much anymore and why Heather had to stay hidden. I don't even think even Heather knows her history!"" So Heather is stronger than we thought. I always wondered how she could stand up to me!" Brian said in awe. 

    Kat, Kilene and Heather decided after the computer snafu with Brian, Chase and Leo that they needed to plan a way to send those men on a wild goose or specifically mate chase. They then started planning the next stage of operation mate fooling.
