The feeders stare at me like sheep, confused and scared. They don’t move. I don’t think they’re even breathing. I step around Lazar’s burning body and make a shooing motion at the feeders.
“Go!” I exclaim. “What are you waiting for?”
One of the female shifters is practically shaking. “We can’t go. Once the other Blood Takers come back, and we’re not here, we’ll be punished.”
“Only if they catch you,” I reason. “Which is why it is very prudent for all of you to get out of here!"
Still, none of them move. I bite back a groan of frustration. I go to where Lydia is seated a few feet away from the crowd. Pulling her up by the arm, I drag her with me not wanting to waste any more time.
“Hey!” Lydia tries to fight me off, digging her feet into the dirt. “Get off me!”
