Lex Rainer moves quickly, shielding Kane with his body. The sword slices into the dark fabric of his shirt and leaves a large cut on his shoulder. He hisses from the pain and pushes Opal away with his other arm, nearly knocking her off her feet. Blood drips down from the sword, onto the carpet. Opal’s blue eyes are wild. She raises the sword again and swings at Rainer. He narrowly avoids the blade hitting his neck. Ducking, he grabs Opal by the abdomen and knocks her to the ground. The sword falls to the carpet, and Opal gets on her hands and knees to try and reach the weapon. I’ve been watching all of this occur like a deer in highlights, stunned that this is actually happening.
