I turned back and looked at him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," I whispered. "Come here," he whispered back. "I'm going to shower, then I'll come back," I replied, hoping he would fall back asleep before I returned. He sighed as I left the bedroom. Although I mourned the happy times we shared, which I would have happily relived, I couldn't bring myself to be with him again. I took a slow shower, giving him time to fall back asleep, and I tried to be as quiet as possible when I tiptoed back into the bedroom. I managed to slip under the quilt without waking him and soon closed my eyes, falling asleep. I stirred slightly when he got out of bed and heard his phone buzz, but I quickly drifted back to sleep.
