Adrian was summoned to the throne room just after sunset.
He immediately knew something was wrong.
King Aldric stood beside the council table.
Queen Celestine was there.
Prince Lucien stood near the windows.
Lord Marius held several documents.
Adrian approached and bowed.
“Your Majesty.”
The king’s expression was cold.
“Commander Vale, you are accused of stealing military documents.”
Adrian stared at him.
“What?”
Marius stepped forward.
“We found several restricted reports in a room assigned to you.”
“They were not mine.”
“The evidence says otherwise.”
Adrian looked at the documents.
He recognized the handwriting on the copies.
But he had never seen them before.
“This is a fabrication.”
Marius frowned.
“Be careful with your accusations.”
“I know what I have done and what I haven’t.”
King Aldric raised a hand.
“Enough.”
Adrian lowered his head.
The king looked exhausted.
“Until this matter is investigated, you are relieved of your command.”
Two guards stepped forward.
Adrian looked at the king.
“Your Majesty, I swear on my honor that I am innocent.”
The king did not answer.
As Adrian was escorted away, Elara entered the room.
She saw the guards.
Then she saw Adrian.
“What happened?”
Her father said, “You should not be here.”
“What happened?”
“Adrian has been accused of treason.”
Elara turned toward Marius.
“Who accused him?”
“The evidence speaks for itself.”
“No.”
Her voice was firm.
“It doesn’t.”
The king looked at her.
“Elara.”
“You cannot imprison him based on papers someone could have planted.”
Marius smiled coldly.
“You are emotionally involved.”
“Yes.”
The room became silent.
Elara realized what she had admitted.
But she refused to take it back.
“I believe him.”
Her father stood.
“Leave.”
“Father—”
“Now.”
Elara left the throne room with tears burning behind her eyes.
She knew Adrian was innocent.
But proving it would mean challenging the most powerful people in Valeria.
And she had no intention of standing aside.
