"Who is that and why is he here?"
"His name is Alarik. He's nineteen guilty of torturing his own father for months before anyone noticed since his dad rarely left the house anyway."
Jenasi and Rose took an ensink step towards them I grabbed their arms stopping them in their tracks and stepped in between them approaching Jessy and Alarik telling everyone to stay put through the mind link. If he is really that bad why did he knock out the other prisoner who was guilty of attempting to kill his adopted daughter I was the one who put that asshole in here. Alarik watches me but doesn't make a move to attack still growling at my family. Jenasi is tense watching our every move he hates that I'm near this man but he trusts me. I get right next to them and circle them sniffing him he barely keeps glancing focusing on the biggest threat in the room I take Jessy's hand and gently pull her away he squeezes her tighter not threatening me or trying to hurt her just a mate trying to protect.
"She can't sense you yet Alarik we won't shift till Saturday."
I tell him barely in a whisper he lets her go looking at her with understanding but still staying in-between her and my family. I have Jessy sit on the floor and nudge him to do the same. After he sits i do as well placing myself between them and my family no one makes a move my brother might be the king and his mate the queen. This may sound a little cocky but I run this show.
"Alarik, they won't attack with me in the middle."
He looks at me and I notice his eye is really kind there's no way a man with such kind eyes could do what he's accused of. But then I think of my brother and that's when I realize anyone is capable of horrific things when they are protecting someone. The only question is who.
"What was her name?"
The shock in his eye confirmed my suspicion. He is doing time for a crime he committed but no one asked why he did it. I give everyone behind me a glare before turning my back on them. They are confused but are smart and say nothing.
"S-sophia."
"Who was she?"
"My little sister."
"Will you tell me what happened? "I see a tear run down his face as he gets a far away look in his eye. Like he's reliving the day.
"I went to training I just turned sixteen and my sister eight. We share a birthday just eight years apart. She begged me not to go I thought it was just because she was upset she couldn't go with me since I was in a higher class. I told her when I got back we would go run in the woods so she could ride on my back. Usually going out even in one human form made her happy. I didn't realize her fear at the time but I should've I didn't know how I missed it. When I got home after training our father had just broken down her door apparently when I was home my dad would get drunk. Knowing Sofia would run out to me and by him time to sober up. I knocked him out instantly when I walked into her room she ran to me crying telling me everything. How he had taunted her saying how much she reminded him of his mate and after she turned eight she'd be old enough. If I would've been home even a couple minutes later ... So I sent her to go live with our aunt and I'd spent months torturing him for everything he did while I was gone and most of all what he was trying to do when I got home. I only got caught because I took his gag off to hear his screams as I castrated him with a rusty knife. When I saw the person standing at the window I knew I was screwed so I finished up and killed him."
"Why take the torture why not screen your side of the story?"
"Two wrongs don't make a right ma'am I should've called my king but I wanted to take care of him since it was my naiveness that let him haunt her for so long."
I nod giving him a reassuring squeeze on his shoulder then stand and turn on my heel so fast my brother and sister in law flinch Jake just looks down right horrified at what he just learned.
"So y'all are telling me you sentence people but don't even get the full story? Even if it is a child who is typically a good kid? What on earth is wrong with y'all?! I know you both are better than that! Jenasi you would have been just as bad if not worse if you were in his shoes and I was Sofia in this story!"
"We didn't -"
"I don't wanna hear it you didn't even bother asking! I want him to be healed, released, and his name cleared with the pack now! I didn't care that it's late!"
"Yes Alora."
Everyone started moving so fast I could see the confusion on Alariks face. I walk out with everyone following me after lecturing them for another hour I finally let everyone go to bed. As I curl up in my bed I can't help but wonder if Sophia remembers what her brother did was good for her or come to believe the truth everyone else knows. I drift off into a peaceful sleep deciding one step at a time I can't fix everything in a day.
The next morning before breakfast my brother did as I demanded and cleared Alarik and he looked like a whole new man from the one I found in the cells last night if it wasn't for his scent I'd think he was a different person all together. After that we go eat, talk and laugh. I've missed them so much even with the bumpy road from last night I can't stay mad at them as long as they learned from that. Must have been humiliating for Jenasi to admit such a mistake. I'm glad Alarik doesn't seem to be holding any grudge and is ready to start life again. After breakfast I go play with Aloruxe chasing him as he crawls and having him chase me. I didn't know babies could be so fast.
