" Would you like a glass of water?'' I asked the three men that had wandered into the kitchen. All four of the guests from the Black Eclipse pack were in the kitchen. Their rooms were across from each other. I know because I had set them up myself.
''Yes ma'am, that would be lovely. Thank you.'' I nodded my head. I don't know how to respond to that. No one's ever said that many words at once to me, much less say thank you. I served the glasses and looked in the fridge while they drank. If I ask them what they want to eat, they'll probably just say whatever's fine. Ugh. This is annoying. I saw a block of cheese and some slices of ham or turkey meat for sandwiches. I saw some random fruits and different types of things in jars that Rebecca would put out when she served everything on a tray.
''Would you like a sandwich or a snack board?'' I couldn't remember the other word that Rebecca used when she talked about the board.
''A snack board is fine, whatever's easiest. I'm sorry for disturbing you so late into the evening. '' I shook my head. This was my job. I'd probably be up and doing something anyway. It was still early anyway. I looked at the time on the stove, and it was only 11:45. That's not midnight but it's close. Normally, I'm just finishing up the kitchen and dining room by this time anyway.
''It's no bother.'' I gave them a small smile as they took a seat at the kitchen island. No one ever sits there. I'm still expected to clean the stools every night, but I've never seen anyone sit there. I'm not allowed to sit there. They lightly talked amongst themselves, but I felt someone keep staring at me. The same stare from earlier. My wolf perked up while I was laying everything out on a plate because I wasn't allowed to grab the boards without Rebecca's permission. It's just a board, so I don't know the big deal, but last time I grabbed it she beat me with the metal serving spoon.
My wolf was watching. I felt her tense up inside my head. It's the Alpha. I stopped what I was doing just for a second when she said that. The Alpha? Why's he looking at us? I don't know. He's just watching. Maybe he's super hungry and watching the food and, since I'm making the food, he's looking at me. That makes sense. Right? She shook her head. She was still weak so it was strange to watch her move. She was too skinny. Almost skeletal as she stood up, I could tell her legs were shaking as she tried to be defensive. My heart broke for her. It wasn't her fault that I was subjected to live like this. I know why she left but I never stopped loving her. I finished the food and turned around just as the Alpha's eyes looked away from me. They started eating the grapes and crackers. I had to use three plates. These were big men. They gave me a small thanks and went quiet as they finished. I pretended to clean the kitchen and wiped the already clean counter with the dishtowel. It's not like I could yell at him for looking at me. That might get me killed. I knew they were speaking to each other through their minds. I could see that far off look in their eyes as they ate.
Well, why would they trust me with their private conversations? They finished eating fast and headed outside. I wonder what they're talking about. Some top secret Alpha business, no doubt. I washed the plates and washed all the way up my arms since nobody was here. The house quiet. Almost too quiet. I could hear some giggling from upstairs as I dried my arms from the quick shower I took. Footstep started sounding down the stairs. The girl who threw the party, the same girl from the doctor, was leading a group of three girls down the stairs. They were all dressed in these short, flowy, see-through dresses I had never seen before that stopped just under their butts. Their underwear matched the color of the dress they wore. They had their hands covering their breasts as they laughed with each other. Where they trying to seduce the Alpha and the other men? I stood still as they peeked into the living room and the dining room. I grabbed a plate from the sink and started drying it.
''Ugh, what are you doing here?'' Her voice was loud. Whoever she was trying to surprise, would know to stay away.
''I'm cleaning the kitchen ma'am.'' I wasn't going to take a chance with her. She's friends with Beta Micheal and I don't know the other girls. I think I've seen them at breakfast but I don't think I've ever payed attention to them. She rolled her eyes at my answer. What else am I supposed to say? She clicked her tongue and put her hand on her hip. I turned around to put away the plates as she uncrossed her arms and put her hands on her hips.
''Where's the Alpha and his friends, slave?'' She tapped her foot as she waited for me to answer. I didn't want to tell her they were outside, but I'm a terrible liar. If they saw them come inside they would know I had lied and then I'd get whipped. I put the last plate away and turned around. I would have no choice but to lie to them. I may not know them but I wouldn't subject anyone to have to see her and her friends like this. I opened my mouth just as the Alpha and everyone walked inside. The girls hadn't heard them yet.
''Behind you,''
''What.'' She and her friends turned around as they walked past. The men didn't spare them a passing glance as they walked away. The Alpha stopped by the kitchen and gave me another thanks and followed the rest of his men. The girl in the yellow dress stomped her foot. ''You said this would work Jessica! What gives?'' The girl in pink turned to her. Jessica, that was her name. I would have to remember that.
''You! What did you do to them?'' She pointed her finger at as her clones followed behind her.
''I gave them what they asked for.'' I don't see how it's my fault that none of them were interested in whatever it was they were offering.
''You sl*t!" The girl with brown hair and the green dress called out from behind her.
''They asked for a snack.''
''They're single men, traveling for days, and you gave them a snack, and they just ignored me.'' I nodded my head to what Jessica said. That was exactly what happened. How did she know they were single? They rolled their eyes once more and walked away. They marched up the stairs loud enough that I heard them from the kitchen. Since everything was done, for the first time in my life, I was going to bed before one in the morning.
