Chapter 3 - Her

855 Words
*From Rome's perspective* All my life I have craved my mate. A person I could love unconditionally. A person who would be my love until the end. But unfortunately I have not been blessed. As the first child of an alpha, I can sense my mate from 15 years old. She would remain unaware of the mate bond until the usual matematching age of 17. All werewolf's then have a year with their mate, if found, to bond with them until they both turn 18 and get to attend mating ceremony. Unfortunately, I never found mine. Likelihood was, my mate is dead. Every wolf's dream is to meet their mate. To fall in love, eternal love. To constantly support each-other.Its a craving, a need. And it pains me daily, each day i'm not with my mate, I mourn. My parents took me to a Seer to try and help me. But all the the Seer could tell me, was that my mate is dead. The news, although it was what I was expecting, still hit me like a ton of bricks, so my parents sent me to the Cornish Cador** Pack, to try and heal. I have been here 6 months and I have recovered a great deal. The Seer of the Cador pack told me, upon my arrival that, no matter how sad I am about not having a fated mate, now I get to choose my own fate. And that stuck by me. So I trained. Day in day out. I built my strength mentally and physically. I dived into my alpha studies, unlike before. I craved work, to be something. Make a difference. And so I worked. I prepared to surpass my father in his duties. Every day at about 3 am, I would go for a run, in wolf form. Connecting with nature. Always careful to never get caught. Like usual I went for my run. Returning back to the Alpha house, about 6 am, ready for breakfast. Unfortunately, the house had run out of bacon. Now for 6 werewolves, no bacon for breakfast is a big deal, so to save the cook having to go in the rain to get enough bacon for all of us, I decided to take my wolf on a run again, and grab the bacon for us. I ran around town, transforming just inside the tree line, so there would be no onlookers.Strolling in human form, I head towards the shopping center, where the big supermarkets are. We need a-lot of bacon. The moment I walked into the shop, something felt different. Something felt right, like I was supposed to be where I was. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone move, and I looked over. There was a girl, red curly hair, blue eyes, thin lips, a few tattoo's and glasses. There was something about her, something that intrigued me, something that made my wolf want to come out and play. I think she saw me looking because she looked up from what she was doing and smiled. I picked up a shopping basket and walked over to her. "Good morning-" I looked at her name tag "Hera!" She looked up at me and smiled, her cheeks filled and lifted her glasses a little. "Good morning, how can I help." she replied. And then her scent hit me, it was beautiful, woody with a hint of jasmine. I could smell that scent all day. I asked her were the bacon was and she led the way. I followed behind her, as the child of an alpha, that is not something im used to doing, but something about her thrilled me. I craved knowing her. I craved running in wolf form through the woods next to her. All I could think of was getting to know her. When we reached the bacon, I knew my time with her was limited, Hera had to get back to work. Just as she was about to leave I asked for her number, she gave it. Her warm hand brushing mine as she took my phone, I felt my blood rush to my face, I wondered if she could see me blushing, my wolf was not happy with me for embarrassing myself. I watched her type her number into my phone, some part of me knew she was my future and the other part of me mourned the mate I never had. I let the girl get back to work and I emptied the shop of their bacon. I went to the self-checkout and I could feel her watching me, I watched her in the reflection on the self-checkout screen. As I left the shop, I turned to smile at her but she was back to work. Running out of sight, I shifted and took the bacon back to the pack grounds for a hearty breakfast. When I got back to the pack grounds, I knew the Alpha and his family would be able to smell her on me. The bombardment of questions was guaranteed to come my way. Preparing myself, I walked through the doors.
