Luke followed his father out of the Throne room and down the hall into the huge dinning hall. There was no sign of Nicole anywhere among the huge crowd. “Hello again, sexy.” Luke spun around and saw Chelsea Snowlin, standing too close for comfort, so much so he took a step back. The annoying little Fairy princess never could take a hint. “Don’t sneak up on a werewolf, Fairy. You could get your thin little wings bit off.” Luke said sternly. “Mmmm, I may like that, Luke. We could always go to your place and find out.” she said, running her fingers down her chest to rest between her small breasts. “No, Chelsea. I told you long ago, I have no interest in you and I will never sleep with you.” Luke said angrily. He wanted to find Nicole and this fairy was blocking his path. Chelsea‘s face turned red with anger. “Poor choice of words, Wolf! I’ll….” “You’ll what, Chelsea?” Ara said, stepping up beside Luke. He took her offered hand and kissed her palm. Chelsea took a step back. “I’m sorry, your majesty. Just a little lover’s spat.” she said sweetly. “We’ll finish this later, love.” she said, winking at Luke. She bowed to Ara, then turned and walked away. “Honestly, that fairy is going to be in a heap of trouble one of these days.” Ara said, turning to face Luke. “Great timing, your majesty.” Luke said, smiling and bowing slightly. “You just saved my worthless hide.” “Luke, really, it was no trouble at all. You are not worthless and you know it,” Ara said sternly, then softened and smiled. “If you are looking for my daughter, she’s in the library.” “How did you know?” Luke asked, feigning shock. Ara chuckled and patted Luke’s arm. “I may be over a thousand years old, my dear, but I know love when I see it. That same look you had in your handsome golden eyes all those years ago, when you and Nicoleta were courting, was burning brighter than ever throughout the whole ceremony.” Luke blushed. He had been watching Nicole the whole ceremony. He just hadn’t expected her parents to be watching him. “It’s alright, dear. It’s actually a relief. Poor Nicoleta was devastated when you left. The fact you still love her and want to be with her will be of great news to her.” “How many suitors am I in competition with for her heart?” Luke asked, hating the idea of another man catching Nicole's eye. “With you, Luke Sangre, there will be no competition.” Ara said simply. “Thank you, your majesty.” Luke said. Her took her hand and kissed her palm again. Then bowed and left the hall to head for the library. Ara watched his walk down the hall. Such a handsome man. He would make a wonderful husband to her daughter and a great King. She just hoped their first meeting in two centuries was full of happiness and not anger and hurt. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicole looked out over the gardens, her mind full of thoughts of Luke. Would he come talk to her and still love her? Or would he ignore her because his heart belonged to another? Maybe Chelsea had finally gotten to him and snagged him for herself, though he had made it clear to her he would never leave Nicole for her. Nicole mentally slapped herself. Why in the hell should she care if Luke was involved or not? He’d left her two centuries ago and, despite telling her he loved her, he had never once wrote or come to see her. He wouldn’t have been able to call her because the phone wasn’t invented until just a few decades ago and the cell phone even fewer decades ago. He wouldn’t have had her numbers. On the other hand, he could have figured it out and he did still have those other two options. Nicole was frustrated. Her heart wanted Luke no matter what and wanted to give him a chance to explain. However, her brain told her he had left her and never contacted her, so why should she waste her time giving him a chance? Nicole had always thought with her mind. Ever since Luke had left, she’d stopped following her heart. Mainly because it had been ripped apart. There was a soft knock on the door and it opened slowly. “Nicole?” she heard Luke say softly. His voice was deeper than she remembered, but still familiar to her nonetheless. He’d come to see her! Her heart sang and she just hoped she could keep a hold of herself long enough to hear what he had to say.
