CHAPTER 10Maggie entered into a long room with only one other person and the warden with her. She looked at the man who had turned her dreams into nightmares. Now, however, this nightmare had a warm smile spread across his face as he put down a Bible that he had been reading. As he stood, Maggie slowly approached, not quite sure what to say or do now that she was actually in the same room with this man. Packton appeared to be in good health. He was no longer the large, intimidating figure from her dreams. He was now a bit on the chubby side. He offered his right hand to Maggie but stopped himself when he noticed her bandaged right hand.
“Pardon me,” he said, then offered the left, which she accepted.
“Thank you for agreeing to meet with me, Mr. Packton.”
“Please, call me Joe,” he said w
