43 HOME Iona walked home from the Guild District alone. Reet and Derek had both gone straight across the Guild Square from the Mages Guild to the Adventurers, but Iona had had enough. She crossed the river by the Brightling Bridge, revelling in the foetid smell of the Ddu in summertime as it slugged its way to the unsuspecting delta with the filth of the masses collecting in nasty lumps on the surface. The feel of the broken cobbles, the sound of the bustle and complete lack of horizons were like paradise to her right now. She let herself in through the back door, dumped her pack by the scullery standpipe and kicked off her boots.
