The Indaba Tree is vital to the fabric of Tartarian Clan culture. Every settlement, however small, has one. An Indaba Tree is a symbol of freedom and equality among Tartars – a meeting point where everyone is entitled to their say. Over time, Indaba Trees have become almost sacred to Clans, representing the heart of their people, the wisdom of the ancestors and the history of the Clan. The Clan shamans adorn the bark of the trees with natural dyes, beads and carvings to commemorate important times in Clan life and draw down the power of the totem. The Bards gather children beneath the vast canopies and teach them the history, lore and rhyme that makes up the Clan identity.
