I don't have anything negative to say about this story because it is that good and one of my all time favourites. The death quite suddenly of Sir Charles Baskerville in mysterious circumstances is the trigger for one of the most extraordinary cases ever to challenge the brilliant analytical mind of Sherlock Holmes. As rumors of a legendary hound said to haunt the Baskerville family circulate Holmes and Watson are asked to ensure the protection for Sir Charles only heir Sir Henry who had travelled all the way from America to reside at Baskerville Hall in Devon. And it is there in an isolated mansion surrounded by mile after mile of wild moor which Holmes and Watson come face to face with a terrifying evil and reaches out from centuries past. I really liked the twists and turns Canon Doyle took me on as I read The Hounds of Baskervilles. Is the legend of the hound real? How did Sir Charles Baskerville really die? Who or what is living in secrecy on the moors? What's the meaning of the strange lights at night? Is the Baskerville curse real or just a rumour? Who or what's taken Sir Henry Baskervilles belongings? Canon Doyle has great skill at building suspense and mystery and leading the reader down the garden path. I thought of The Hounds of Baskervilles was great because of this. I have read too many books where the author insists on telling the reader every pointless detail until there are no twists turns or surprises left. I liked the relevation that the hound was real although not quite the super natural spectre of the legendary curse. It took me a while to get in to The Hounds of Baskervilles. The first 20-30 % contains a ridiculous amount of dialogue with Holmes, Dr Wantson and Dr Mortimer discusses the strange death of Sir Charles Baskerville and the alleged curse. I just wanted them to shut up and get on with the story. Mr Sherlock Holmes who was usually very late in the mornings save upon those not infrequent occasions when he stayed up all night was seated at the breakfast table. I really enjoyed The Hounds of Baskervilles although it took a while to get in to. It certainly held my attention. I also have a collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories on my Kobo that I want to read today. The Hounds of Baskervilles Written by the Sir Arthur Canon Doyle I Sherlock Holmes unravel the mystery of the legendary hound that has plagued the Baskerville clan for centuries. He concludes Sir Charles death is brought upon him by a beast the Hounds of Baskervilles. Upon my investigation of the hound I am able to prove that urban legends are able to persuade people in a train of thought without considering the other factors in the case urban legends such as Hound. The Hounds of Baskervilles is a story that combines the realms of the logical Darwinian sciences and the super natural. There are many clear and apparent examples of these two topics throughout the story and they play a prelevant role in the theme of the book. When Stapleton offers the explanation The peasants says it is The Hounds of Baskervilles calling for its prey.
