The Betrayal

1286 Words
When a wolf finds his mate, especially an alpha, they immediately become protective of the mate and want them around, but Kael was not the same, and Aria noticed this. At first, she decided not to say a word, but as the days went by, she could not help it. “So, when are you going to take me to our place?” Aria asked Kael, and he hesitated in answering. “Well, Aria, it’s not like I don’t want to be with you right now, but there are some things I still need to take care of in the house. Remember, my father doesn’t have a mate of his, seeing as my mother left and…” Kael kept on talking, and Aria was left wondering what his father had to do with him claiming her fully. “I don't understand. I am your mate; the others who met their mates have claimed theirs and even marked them. Why are we… what does your father not having a mate have to do with this?” she asked angrily. “You cannot understand, Aria. Both your parents are around you, so you don't feel left out. I have just my father and…” “And he is the Alpha. He is not whiny, as you are right now, at the loss of his mate. Do you think your father cares about your bringing me home? Besides, don’t you have your place?” she snapped at him. “How dare you?! How dare you call me whiny? Have you forgotten who you are talking to? I AM YOUR ALPHA!” he replied, his voice reverberating in the whole arena. Aria could not believe her eyes. Not only did he raise his voice at her, but he also used the alpha voice on her, on his mate. She stood there and watched him walk away to join his friends. She saw how one of his friends tried to calm him down, but he still did the same thing; he almost hit him after growling at him to get out of his sight. Aria looked around, feeling embarrassed, until she saw Lyra run towards her mate, trying to comfort him, and he let her. She had her hand on his shoulder, whispering words to his ears, and then he watched them both leave the arena. Scoffing loudly at what just happened, she turned to leave, but a voice stopped her. “If you leave now, you will give them more reason to whisper. Stay,” he said, but she didn't bother to look up at the voice. She already knew who it was. Alpha Thane. “Yes, Alpha,” she replied and went off to stand with the others. Training went on as usual, and she could not move a muscle or tear her eyes away from her mate as he tore through the other warriors. “Your mate really is good, isn’t he?” one of the other warriors said beside her, “Now if only you knew how to handle a man like that, maybe your sister wouldn’t have her hands all over him.” The words the she-wolf said were to taunt her, and it worked. When it was her time to be called to the clearing, all she saw was red. She was so blinded by rage that she had her claws out before she knew it. The she-wolf that had taunted her was waiting for her; she was going to be her opponent. All Aria could think of was clawing her eyes out and putting her in her place. Perhaps that was what blinded her. The feelings of jealousy, anger, and rage made her rush in into the attack too quickly. The she-wolf read her attack, like she would see it coming from afar, and evaded her swiftly. She waited a bit, just for Aria to get her face out of the dust. “Is that all you’ve got, Luna?” The she-wolf said again. She was mocking her, and this time, everyone knew it. Those who heard her and had no reason to respect Aria laughed and giggled at her expense. Aria stood up again and dusted herself off before lunging forward — another costly mistake. Before she could attack, the she-wolf had her hands wrapped tightly around her throat before smashing her to the ground. She felt the air rush out of her lungs, while some got stuck in her throat. She could not breathe and almost choked. Aria held onto the she-wolf’s hand as she tightened her grip around her throat. She tried tapping on her hand, but the wicked grin on the she-wolf’s face made her know that she was after her life — no, she wanted to humiliate her. Make her look weak in front of the other wolves. She was to be their Luna, but the fight just showed how unworthy she was to be their Luna. The she-wolf finally let go, but not before whispering in her ear, “Now I know why you cannot handle your mate. You have no talent, not on the war front, and not even in bed.” She let go of her and raised her hands in victory. Aria lay on the ground with tears in her eyes. She had been so distracted that she let the anger of her mate and her sister take over her. She had always prided herself on not letting her emotions rule her, so everything happening made her feel like she had just lost control over everything. Nia ran to her side and helped her to her feet. “You need to get up, Aria,” she said while pulling her up. Aria kept her head down; she could not lift it to see the look on her mate’s face. Kael had no decency to run towards her and offer his hands; instead, he was held down by her sister. Their hands were hidden, but Aria could see them, and her blood boiled. She ran out of the training ground in annoyance and embarrassment. That night, Aria didn't sleep. The moon hung high and cold outside her window, casting long shadows across her room. But there was no warmth in the night, not when her thoughts spun in endless circles. She got up and decided to take a walk. Before she knew it, she found herself at the pack house. She had always come here and been able to; she liked it. Sometimes, she would go into the library and read a book before going to sleep. That night, she found herself wandering the halls of the pack house, and soon, she was in the alpha’s chambers. Or would it be Alpha Chambers when Kael finally claims her? She was just about to walk away when she got a whiff of Kael’s scent, pungent, but it drew her in, and like a moth drawn to a flame, she followed it. She carefully opened the door and walked in quietly. Her sharp ears picked up the sounds, grunting, moaning, and whimpering, and she at first thought Kael was having a bad dream. If only she knew that was the beginning of her bad dreams. Something in her needed to see what was going on, like a need to know the truth. She quietly walked in and heard a voice, a female’s voice, Lyra’s voice. “Kael…” Aria didn’t breathe. She couldn't breathe. Lyra’s voice was moaning her mate’s name. Lyra was holding her mate’s shoulders. Her sister was f*****g her man, and Kael was pounding into her like he had no restraints. “Kael…” She whispered, her eyes glued to the scene before her.
