Chapter 6

Then, the next morning, I got out of bed, brushed my teeth, and took a shower. I had some coffee and left for work. On my way to work, I tried calling Paul’s friend's phone number to check if I could reach out to them, but it wasn’t connecting. I was so disappointed and worried, and I started having so many negative thoughts, wondering if Paul was okay. When I got to the restaurant where I work, I was so unhappy that I couldn’t reach out to Paul or his friend. Still, I had to put on a fake smile so I wouldn’t be questioned by Stephanie, but unfortunately, she noticed. “Camila, is everything okay?” Stephanie asked. “Yes, everything is fine. Don’t worry, and thanks for caring, Stephanie.” I said to Stephanie. “Are you sure?” Stephanie asked “Yes, everything is fine, i promise.” I replied “How did the night go?” She asked "Night?" I asked "Girl, I'm talking about last night. You were out on a date, remember? With Robert.”Stephanie said. "Oh, that? I don’t want to talk about him. He’s a cheater. Can you believe he is married? I’m still out on a date with him. That’s insane. I mean, I asked him if he was married, and he told me that no, he isn’t married. But everything became clear when his phone rang, and I looked at the screen. It was his wife calling. Men like that should be put in jail, right?" I said to Stephanie. "Hahahah, girl, it’s not like that. I think you took things too far. You could have given him a chance to explain." Stephanie said. "I should have given him a chance? Seriously? No way! I just told you that I saw his wife calling him on the phone." I said. "How did you know it was his wife on the phone?" Stephanie asked. "Girl, he literally saved his wife’s number as 'wifey.' You know what that means, right?" I said to Stephanie. “Oh, I understand now. It’s crazy to leave his wife and go on a date with another lady, and this is why I always say all men are the same.” Stephanie said “Go on a date? Hell no! It’s never a date, okay? I only wanted to return the favor for helping me get my car fixed the other day. And, Stephanie, I also want to remind you that not all men are the same, at least I know my husband Paul is different.” I said to Stephanie “Damn girl, you’re really serious about this.” Stephanie said to me. “Yes, of course! I blocked his number and warned him that next time he tries reaching out to me, I will call the police on him.” I said to Stephanie. “Girl, chill! Hahaha! It hasn’t gotten to that point, girl. Stephanie said and laughed. Girl, don’t tell me to chill, or I might call the police on you too! Hahaha!” I said and laughed. We both talked and laughed while cooking and baking different dishes for the customers. “Girl, what about your husband Paul? Have you heard anything from him?” Stephanie asked. “No, really, I haven’t. I kept trying the number he used to call me the other day, but it was not reachable. I tried so many times, and yet still no luck.” I said sadly to Stephanie. “That’s not a good sign, I can tell. I just hope he is fine and safe over there in Syria.” Stephanie said. “I believe he is fine, girl, but to be honest, I am just really worried about him and his well-being. What are you doing after work?.” I said and asked Stephanie. “Uhm, nothing. I will just head back home and get some rest.” Stephanie said “Really? You’re not going out tonight?” I asked Stephanie surprisingly. “No, girl, for real, I won’t go out tonight. But why are you asking, though?”Stephanie said and asked. “Nothing really, it’s just that I want to hang out with you tonight. I need to forget some things right now because I have been thinking negatively these past few days, and I don’t want my negative thoughts to keep ruining my days all the time.” I said to Stephanie. “Really, girl? Hahaha, I know you’re joking and you’re trying to pull my leg right now, but it won’t work on me.” Stephanie said. “No, girl, I am being serious right now. I swear! But it’s okay if you don’t want to hang out tonight, maybe we can do that some other time?” I said to Stephanie. “Wow, girl! Of course, I would love to hang out with you tonight. I’m just really surprised that you’re sounding this way, girl.” Stephanie said. “But no men tonight, okay? Just me and you doing girl things and having fun together, okay?” I said to Stephanie. “OKAY, Camila! I heard you no men tonight, just me and you. Got it.” Stephanie said. “Good! So, would you go home and freshen up, or what exactly?” I asked. “Yes, girl! I will go home and freshen up. Hahaha! I don’t want to go to the club smelling like s**t, but girl, you will have to drop me off because I didn’t come with my car today.” Stephanie said. “Oh, girl, no problem! I will drop you off after work, or I think it’s better that I take you to my house, and you can freshen up there.” I said to Stephanie. “What about my clothes? I also need clothes to put on for the night.” Stephanie asked and said. “Don’t worry yourself, I have clothes that would fit you perfectly, girl. Relax!.” I said to Stephanie Then, after work, we got into the car, and I drove both of us to my house. Stephanie was surprised after seeing the mansion I live in. “Girl, is this your house?” Stephanie asked. “Yes! Hahahah, why?” I laughed and asked. “Hell no, girl! You’re really living in this beautiful mansion all alone? Damn, girl, Paul has got money?” She asked “Yes, girl. Paul and I were meant to live here together, build our family, and have our kids brought up in this mansion. But unfortunately, he left for his military career before we could even start a family together.” I said to Stephanie. “Oh girl, don’t be sad, everything will be fine, okay?” Stephanie said “I hope so, Stephanie.” i said “Now I see why you love him and don’t want to leave him or move on. I mean, your man’s got money!.” Stephenie said to me.
