EpilogI was sitting on a comfortable bench. But my eyes were stuck shut, my ears and noses were plugged, so I had to breath through my mouth. The last thing I remembered was escaping from Utah in my uncle’s car. He didn’t need it anymore because he had already died from the Cough. He and his wife —a stick of a woman that wasn’t good enough for him— so I was glad she died. All she ever seemed to eat was cabbage. My husband lay in the back seat of the car, he was extremely sick from the Cough. Snow was falling lightly. My daughter Sofia seated next to me, praise God, was still healthy. No radio anymore, no stations left on the air. No traffic on the road just the occasional bone-thin deer looking for food in the unnaturally early snow. No snowplows either so I was driving slowly and careful
