How in the hell she got to this conclusion is beyond me and it is a bit concerning. If she really thinks that the mate connection can be broken like that, does she think I would choose to put us through the pain of breaking a mate connection?
That is the worst pain a wolf could go through. In the most basic sense, it is splitting a soul. When a wolf mate, their souls become one. It is not glued or something that you can see as a seam in. There is no clear line where one ends and the other begins. It becomes one perfect being.
