Alice rushed over with her forehead wrinkled in worry, grabbing my arm the second she saw me. “Hazel, what’s wrong? You look like you’re about to pass out.” I forced a smile and raked my fingers through my hair, trying to play it cool even though the cramp was still twisting in my stomach, “I’m fine, I just need to go to the bathroom real quick.” I pulled away from her and headed straight for the restroom, leaning against the sink the second the door shut behind me. My period was not supposed to come for three more days. I had no idea why it was happening now. I got the worst type of cramps, the ones that make you feel like you’re gonna throw up if you don’t get meds fast. I gripped the edge of the sink and took a deep breath.
