I arrived in the classroom the next day and found Maris writing something in her notebook. Most of our classmates hadn’t arrived yet so I thought of talking to her, to somehow break off the tension from yesterday. She spared me a glance when I reached my seat, which could mean it was safe to interact. I took a peek at what she was writing. “Is it for the girl you like?” I whispered to her, looking at the scribbles that looked like a poem. “Maybe,” she said in a quiet voice and smiled a little. I was glad we could talk like we used to even after I learned about her secret. It would be a major letdown if she were to take it back.  After all, it was hard to find someone who feels the same way.
