CHAPTER 006
SELENE'S POINT OF VIEW
"Good morning to you, sleeping beauty!"
The sound of Anika’s voice snapped me out of sleep.
I rolled away from the bright light streaming through the curtains while groaning. "Too bright," I mumbled.
She pulled the covers from me while saying, "You should be grateful for the sun."
I let out a sigh as I pushed myself up from the bed. I glanced toward the vacant spot next to me. Viktor had disappeared. Again.
Did he return during the night? When I asked, my voice came out softer than I had intended.
Anika shook her head. "Not that I saw. He left you a package."
She pointed to the couch, which held a collection of beautifully wrapped boxes and paper bags. My stomach twisted.
"What is that?"
"Only one way to find out!" Her smile widened as she skipped with excitement.
I trailed behind her with reluctance while she started to open the boxes. The boxes contained luxurious dresses along with delicate jewelry, expensive shoes, and silky nightwear. The items appeared completely clean and unhandled. These items represented possessions I had never owned before.
Anika sighed dreamily. "He’s spoiling you."
I frowned. He must be making up for something.
She blinked at me. "Why would you say that?"
"That's because Viktor is involved." Viktor always acts with purpose behind his actions.
Anika paused before she shrugged her shoulders. I’ll take them if you don’t want them.
I chuckled, shaking my head. The ones I dislike you can keep.
She gasped. You must mean it if you joke about that!
A faint smile crossed my face while my mind wandered to other thoughts. Could this be yet another complex move in his strategic game?

BREAKFAST DRAMA
After completing her cleaning tasks, Anika guided me to the kitchen.
The other pack members had finished eating before I woke up, which left the kitchen empty.
Which breakfast would you like today? she asked.
I answered with, "I'll take a sandwich and coffee." I looked at her before saying, "I can prepare breakfast for both of us."
She gasped dramatically. "Oh no, no, no! You must never do that.
I chuckled. "What? I know how to cook. Cooking was my regular task when I belonged to my previous pack.
She grabbed my arm and pushed me onto a stool where I had to sit. You mentioned your old pack before. Not here. The Alpha will hold me accountable if he sees you doing chores.
I groaned. "I’m not a child."
"You belong to him," she teased while winking and heading toward the coffee maker.
I scoffed. "Only if you knew."
Anika began making my sandwich when a voice I knew too well cut through the room.
"Look who’s here."
I stiffened. Milena.
Milena entered the kitchen displaying her typical smug expression.
I sighed, already exhausted. I whispered to myself, "I'm not in the mood."
Were your eyes rolling at me just now? She stopped abruptly a few feet away while planting her hands on her hips.
I paid no attention to her and watched Anika, who kept herself occupied while nervously looking between us.
"Are you deaf?!" Milena yelled at me while she moved toward me aggressively.
I stated firmly yet calmly that I wanted to avoid any trouble.
That's unfortunate because I am ready to fight.
She caught my hair in her hand and pulled it back before I had time to respond.
"Milena!" Anika cried, rushing forward.
Milena tightened her grip while warning me to stay away from this situation or face the same fate.
My scalp felt like it was on fire as I hissed while trying to pull her fingers away from me. But she was stronger.
What actions did you take against Viktor during last night? she demanded. He threw me out because of you.
"Nothing!" I spat.
"Liar!" She twisted my hair harder. You will tell me what happened, or I swear—
"I said nothing!"
She hissed at me. "You listen to me." "Viktor belongs to me. The Moon Goddess binding you to him makes no difference to me. You will never have him."
The sound of voices reached us from outside the kitchen. Two she-wolves approached Viktor to greet him.
Milena untangled my hair and swiftly raked her fingers through her own to simulate an attack.
My stomach dropped.
I understood her next move before she made it.
Viktor appeared in the doorway exactly when expected.
He scanned our group before his gaze settled on Milena. She began to sniffle while her eyes displayed shimmering fake tears.
"What happened?" He moved toward us with a sharp tone while placing his hand on her shoulder.
Her finger directed at me while her voice shook. "Selene attacked me. She grabbed my hair with so much force that I ended up with a headache.
I shot to my feet. "I did not!"
"You did!" she wailed dramatically. Your jealousy from last night caused you to attack me! Your anger reached a point where you physically attacked me!
I turned to Viktor, my heart pounding. "You have to believe me. Look at my hair! She did this to me!"
His expression darkened. He fixed his eyes on me while his jaw tightened.
Then he took a step forward.
And another.
My breathing sped up while I automatically moved backward.
I had seen that look before. A tempest gathered behind his eyes.
"You're lying," I said rapidly because I needed him to hear me. "She’s lying."
His nostrils flared. He halted mere inches away from me while his massive stature made me feel tiny by comparison.
The intoxicating combination of pine and musk enveloped me until my body gave in.
No. Not now.
I should have been terrified at this moment.
My heart pounded against my ribs as his lips opened.
Would he believe her over me? Could he send me to punishment for actions I never committed?
What was causing my body to react to him even though everything should have stopped this from happening?
Did I face punishment because of Milena's latest deception?
Was Viktor about to discover the truth at last?
