CHAPTER 004
VIKTOR’S POINT OF VIEW
I lost control. The wolf within me emerged with one sole purpose: to protect her.
Selene. The prophecy determined my destiny with her, yet discovering she was my mate felt like divine retribution. The Moon Goddess must have cursed me with this mate.
An Omega? The prophecy declared her as the mother of my future heir.
I bit down hard on my teeth to keep a growl from escaping. I would have banished her immediately if she wasn't the sole one who could give birth to my puppies.
A king needs an heir.
I would take every measure to prevent my heir from inheriting any Omega weakness.
“Mate?!” Milena’s voice cut through my thoughts with a tone that blended shock and disgust with a hint of dangerous jealousy.
I turned to face her. This moment pressed down on me with overwhelming force. Milena stood with me throughout our entire childhood. A beta. Strong. Milena was meant to fulfill the role of my Luna.
Not SSelene.
The brewing storm in Milena’s eyes signaled trouble, which I couldn't afford to face before my pack.
“Let’s take this elsewhere.” My tone was firm.
“No, I—”
“Milena.” I cut her off. Milena understood she should never challenge me during public appearances. I was her Alpha. Her position alone should have maintained her obedience.
She formed a thin line with her lips yet followed my command.
I led the way out of the dining hall, my head pounding with frustration. The moment we entered my chambers, Milena erupted into a tirade.
“What is happening, Viktor? You brought her here to serve as a breeder. Now, she’s your mate? What’s next? Are you going to make her Luna and then discard me as if I don’t exist?
Her composed facade broke apart as tears flowed down her face.
I spoke her name softly while I wiped her tears away with my hand. “I will never leave you. You are the love of my life. After she delivers my puppies, I will turn away from her.
Why didn’t you believe I could provide you with an heir? Her voice cracked. What was the purpose of her presence?
“You know why.” I strained my voice. “We tried, Milena. We made repeated efforts. The years went by, but we still have no children.
We exhausted all options, including herbal treatments, healers, and the Oracle’s advice. But no child came.
My desperation brought me to this point.
She whispered softly that we should have put more effort into our attempts. “We should have.”
Her pain was real. The pain she felt reached depths I hadn't anticipated.
“Tell me what I need to do.” I was holding her hands while speaking with unwavering determination. “Anything. I will follow your instructions to demonstrate that you are my sole love.
She raised her chin while her eyes blazed with intense emotion.
“Reject her now.”
I stiffened.
“No.” The word escaped my throat as a growl that reverberated through my chest like a permanent command.
SELENE’S POINT OF VIEW
A wave of shock washed over me when Viktor blocked Milena’s slap from hitting my face.
The most devastating moment occurred when he declared me his mate.
He stood in front of the entire pack.
The moment passed before I could fully understand what happened. He had threatened to reject me and ordered me to bear his pups while making it clear that I meant nothing to him just hours before.
Was he able to reverse his decision?
I refused to allow myself to believe his words.
Lana MMywolf whispered into my mind with a voice that held cautious hope, "I told you." Perhaps his actions don't reflect true cruelty.
“We don’t know that yet.”
Viktor was unpredictable. The events that unfolded made it impossible for me to lower my defenses.
I found myself curious about the conversation between him and MMilena.
As soon as he exited the dining hall, whispers began to fill the space. Mind-linking. They were talking about me. Judging.Questioning.
Their intense gazes drilled into my consciousness. Across all seven regions, the weakest Omega and the strongest Alpha faced off.
I needed to get out of there.
I stood up quickly and spun around before rushing out of the hall.
Anika followed quickly.
I told her in a low voice that she belonged to the pack. As a pack member, you should have detected their mind-linking. What were they saying?”
She hesitated.
I attempted to listen, but they prevented me from hearing anything. They knew I would share any information I heard with you.
I nodded.
“Would you have told me?”
“Depends on what they said.” She smiled while her playful voice tried to cheer me up.
I sighed. “Fair enough.”
A smirk crossed her lips.
Can you understand how fortunate you really are? You have become the Alpha King's mate! She tapped me gently while her eyes sparkled with excitement.
I rolled mine.
“If only you knew.”
She missed the way he looked at me earlier. The disgust. The fury. His words reduced me to nothing more than a breeding tool.
Anika sighed dreamily and said, “Ugh, I wish I had an Alpha mate.” “Someone strong. Powerful. Protective.”
I smiled weakly. “I hope he loves you.”
“He will,” she declared.
Her expression sobered. “But you need to be careful. Milena will fight to keep her position and won’t allow you to replace her. She will destroy your life if she needs to protect her position.
I already knew that. Her eyes revealed her intentions to me right from the beginning. She would never choose to give up her position voluntarily.
“I’ll be careful.”
We paused at the entrance to Viktor’s chambers.
Anika announced her departure while showing her radiant smile. “Goodnight, SSelene.”
Panic flared inside me.
Facing Viktor by myself was something I wasn't prepared to do.
“Can’t you stay with me?” The words escaped my mouth before I could stop them.
She laughed. “Stay? In the Alpha King’s room?” She shook her head. “Not a chance.”
I forced a smile. “Right. Of course.”
She gave me a wave before she vanished into the corridor, which left me alone with my destiny.
I inhaled deeply before I opened the door.
I froze.
The pain hit me with the force of a tidal wave.
Milena pressed herself against Viktor while their lips met in a passionate kiss.
My stomach twisted. My chest ached. The mate bond between us ripped through my mind as Lana whimpered.
I held my chest tightly while turning my body away. To run. I needed to escape before the pain consumed me completely.
Suddenly Milena’s voice filled the room.
“Omega, where do you think you’re going?”
I refused to stop.
As I reached for the door handle to escape, I heard Viktor’s voice slice through the air.
His voice held darkness as he said, "You heard her." “Stay. Watch.”
My breath caught.
No.
No, please.
The sound of Lana’s voice quivered inside my thoughts.
“I told you, Selene. Our trust in him was misguided.
