Episode 15 - Entrees and enemies part 3

597 Words
As quickly as it had come, the vision melted away. That was my mother and her sister. She had a sister! I was never told this. That meant if she was still alive I had an aunt out there somewhere. Something told me that she must be dead because, judging by the emotion I felt during that vision, there wasn't much that could have kept her from keeping that promise to my mother. I turned sad as I suddenly realised that either my father or Sylas must have killed Aunt Deòiridh when I was much younger. Otherwise I'd have definitely remembered them murdering my last blood connection to my mother. I felt guiltier than ever now that I had turned out the way I had. It meant that her death meant nothing. She gladly gave her life because she thought I was destined to be powerful, but instead I was a dud. She'd have been so disappointed in me. I know I was. I held onto the door handle a few more moments before taking a deep breath and heading inside. The door creaked slightly as I entered the master bedroom. It was dark inside but surprisingly it didn't smell musty as I would have expected for a room locked up for just over 20 years. I inhaled deeply, somewhat perturbed that there wasn't a musty smell in there, it smelt like freshly sprayed perfume which smelt like violets and patchouli. A smile flashed across my face out of the blue. I can't explain why but the smell was sweet and familiar, it made me feel comforted. I felt around blindly on the wall for the light switch. I fumbled in the dark for what felt like an eternity; an allegory for my life really, looking back. As I flailed about, it almost felt like a hand guided me to the switch and the lights flickered into luminescence. As I looked around nervously, I realised something; this is the room they were standing in during my vision. My mother had stood here with her sister and named me before I was even born. As I looked around the room, I got a sense of who my mother really was. The room was decorated in different shades of earthy colours, like greens and browns with pops of silver or purple here and there. As if it wasn't strange enough that the room didn't smell musty, I looked over to the window and saw living houseplants. Now THAT was impossible. Part of me didn't want to continue on to the wardrobe because this just felt way too spooky to be coincidence. I shook off the feeling and continued through the rooms to the walk in wardrobe. As I walked in, there hung up next to the mirror was the exact dress I was looking for. As though someone knew I would need it. I collapsed to my knees right there on the floor where I stood. I couldn't take this. Even from beyond the grave, the woman I had murdered had thought about me and been considerate of my needs and my future. I didn't deserve this, she didn't deserve this. I was nothing but a disappointment and waste of life. "Don't say that!" A voice shouted in desperation inside my mind. I snapped my head up, looking for the source of the voice. But as quickly as it came, it was gone again. It left me shaken enough to grab the dress and run out of the apartment to my bedroom and slam the door shut behind me.
