Amaris POV
The gorgeous man's face went from furious to horrified to... embarrassed; all in a matter of moments. As this spectrum of emption washed over him, he held the gentle yet firm grip he had on my biceps where he had steadied me when he collided with me. His eyes were just mesmerizing. Deep and beautiful forest green with flecks of blue and that slight sparkle when the light hits them just so. It was not until he spoke that I realised I had been holding my breath.
"Uh, miss, are you... um... alright? I di-didn't um, hurt you, did I?" He stammered out his sentence and.... wait, was he blushing? No way was this tall drink of Scotland's finest lupine blood embarrassed to be speaking to me.
I must have been staring too long or too deeply for my uncle's liking as the tension finally broke when my uncle barked an order at me; making me jump.
"AMARIS. Stop gawking at an honoured guest and get in here NOW." Sylas yelled.
"Yes, Alpha, right away." I stammered as I scurried off towards him. As soon I was through the office door, he slammed it shut behind me before he wheeled on me, grabbed me by my shirt with one hand, and backhanded me with the other. The force of the hit sent me tumbling onto the floor, dazed and in pain. I instinctually clamped my own hand to my right cheekbone where he had connected. I could not tell, but something was definitely broken, and that would be VERY much a bruise tomorrow. I was used to bruises atop bruises but not broken bone atop broken bone. It is times like these, I wish I had wolf just for the healing factor, really. Covering all this up with makeup, although VERY painful and EXCEEDINGLY difficult, was something I would have to do for the next few weeks now. If only makeup covered up swelling. Oh, well.
I took a beat, then composed myself and stood up. Eyes cast down to show Sylas submission the way he liked it.
"What the f**k did you want anyway," Sylas said as he crossed the room back to his desk.
"I required your VIP list for the blood moon ball so I could prepare the invitations and send the envoys with the summons in time. I would not have dreamt of creating the list myself, of course. It is not my place to choose, my Alpha, " I said humbly, keeping my body language limp and weak and submissive to him. It was best to swallow my pride and just do what he would respond to in the least violent way given the mood he was in. I wonder what the hell that other wolf had said or done to upset him.
"Yes, well. Of course, you can not choose the guest list. I AM the alpha." he said with a smirk.
I was in the office for well over an hour, sitting at the desk taking lists and notes while Sylas paced and dictated. I began to feel more on edge because the later the night more likely it would be that he would look for me to perform other submissive duties he often required of me. I was hoping and praying to the goddess that his revulsion from earlier had lasted somewhat and would mean he would leave me alone for tonight. At around 11.30pm once he had finished dictating my prayers were not answered.
As I was finishing off my notes he came and stood behind me grabbing me by the back of the neck in a vice-like grip and planting me firmly on my knees on the floor. I closed my eyes and began to try and drift off to my happy place in my mind as the horribly familiar sound of a zipper being undone filled my ears. He grabbed me by the hair and forced himself into my mouth. Silent tears rolled down my cheeks until finally he grunted with completion. He zipped up his trousers and began to leave.
"Go away now Amaris I'm sick of the sight of you. You've been, somewhat, useful." His laugh was a cruel and cold one that echoed off the walls and bounced around the room like ricocheting bullets.
I hurriedly gathered my things, wiped the tears from my cheeks and practically ran out of his office. I always used to vow when I was younger if i ever got my wolf, I would make him respect me and regret everything he ever did, and I would change the pack for the better; but not anymore. Now, I suspected I would just burn it all the ground. Starting with that room. As I stepped onto the stairwell, I heard a howl from somewhere in the grounds. It was soft, low, and melancholy and for some strange reason it made me incredibly sad to the core of my soul.
Dacre's POV
Drathos roared and paced in my mind as we both seethed with anger. How DARE he keep our mate from us?!
"Kill him. Rip out his throat." Drathos demanded.
"No Drath, not yet at least. He must think that Amaris will never get a wolf rather than be a late bloomer. But if that were the case, I would have sensed her the moment she was born if she were a wolf less one." he huffed in response. "That has to mean that she will get her wolf at the blood moon, then we can claim her and get her out of here. Besides if she really is an alphas daughter and he treated her so badly and DOES get a wolf pack law states he can be executed for treason." Drathos growled in delight at that thought.
"We can give her his tongue as a wedding gift if you like Drath." He chuckled at my joke, but he and I could tell I was only half joking.
I waited at the bottom of the tower, hoping she would come back. An hour had passed of me pacing up and down before more images came flashing to my mind.
Sylas. The office. A slap. A Vice grip. Trousers unzipped. Tears falling. An unforgivable act. I fell to my knees, panting and sweating. Drathos whimpered in my mind. I balled my fists and slammed them into the cold, hard marble floor until my hands were bloodied and numb. Drathos and I let out a Howl of Pain. It was all we could do.... For now.
