Even though I had been told this is what I was to do for the duration of the blood moon, I still felt this pang of anxiety as though I was doing something incredibly disobedient. I shrugged off the feeling for now and moved on to choosing jewellery to go with the outfit. This proved the most difficult as I wanted to look like I was an alphas daughter but also not look as though I was showing off because that would anger Sylas.
I looked through my old jewellery collection and settled on a scottish silver and moonstone set that Sylas had actually got me for my 15th birthday. I hated the idea of wearing it with any sense of pride but I knew that seeing me in it would give Sylas a sense of power and which he needed every now and again or he would find other ways to show his superiority if I did not show subjugation first.
The set was a necklace, bracelet, earrings, and thumb ring all in delicate silver with oval moonstones set in intervals on the necklace and bracelet and tear drop shaped dangling earrings. The thumb ring was a simple thin band of twisted silver with four tiny moonstones set within the ring. Once over, I had treasured this set. When my uncle was still my uncle and not my abuser.
I carefully did my makeup to cover the still fading bruises and did my hair in a half up half down with a French braid to keep the hair off of my face. By the time I had done all my preparation for the day, it was around 6.30 am already. "Perfect timing." I thought to myself. Kevin would be just prepping and opening the kitchen ready for the days meals and prep for tomorrow.
Breakfast in the pack house was something of a "hotel" kind of affair. Everything about this place was kind of like a hotel actually come to think of it. Which made me the hotel manager, the concierge, front of house, back of house, and even occasionally the maid all rolled into one miserable overworked package. I wandered into the kitchen and saw Kevin prepping various trays of breakfast foods that would be placed under hot lamps in the dining hall for people to help themselves, too.
"Morning pet, ya alreet?" Kevin called from over his shoulder as he manned the grill. I grabbed a croissant and began eating it as I headed over to him.
" Morning kev," I kissed him on the cheek and leant against the counter next to him, eating my breakfast.
He stopped and looked at me with a sad expression as he scanned my outfit and my makeup.
"Not that you don't look wonderful, but should you be wearing all that and looking like that?" He said in a concerned tone.
I chewed carefully and paused before replying;
"Sylas's orders. Need to keep up appearances. I'm even staying in my old room." I said as I looked sheepishly at the floor.
"Besides," I continued on, "what does it matter? He won't be paying attention to me. The King and Queen will be here." I non chalantly dropped that last tidbit of info I hadn't informed him of yet.
"Ah, that explains it then. He needs to pretend to be a good little throne, warmer for the packs next Alpha. It's not like he already stole it or anything." Kevin spat the last words with resentment as he angrily flipped bacon on the griddle.
Just like he could smell the dissent within his ranks, Sylas came storming into the kitchen.
he scanned the room and took one look at me, pure rage in his eyes.
"YOU!" He roared "WHAT DID YOU DO YOU LITTLE SLUT" He crossed the kitchen in two long strides and lunged for me.
