***ANNA*** “Before you apologize, I’m not going to take your apology!” She said as she pouted immediately we disengaged from the hug. “Apologize?” I repeated confused, then it dawned on me, she must have felt I stood her up weeks ago at the club. “Isn’t that why you’re here? Well i'm kidding cause I forgive you,” she chimed in an happy tone and I just nodded. “I’m not here for you…” I simply said and watched as her reaction calmed and her look got serious. “Oh!” That was all she managed to say. “So why are you here then? Do you need something? Help?” “I do need help, with a job, but, I’m here for some Carl…” “There she is!” I heard a man say, I turned around and it’s the guard from earlier that had instructed me to stay put. “I’m sorry for the disturbance Milady, I specifically asked her to stay back in the basement, I’m not sure how she made her way out here,” the guard said then turned to me, throwing me deadly glares while I just stood there, my eyes landing on the young man behind him. He didn’t look familiar. “Lord Carl? This is the woman thats asking of you, said she’s your family,” the guard said and my eyes widened, that was Carl Lockwood? Only, he looked so different or maybe I was too drunk to specifically remember his features, I thought. “You’re related? Thought you’re an only child, just like your mum?” Aurora chipped in and I turned back to her. “Not like that Aurora, I’m pregnant,” I said to her and her lips curved in a smile. “That’s wonderful news!” She squirmed happily, but I just turned back to Carl, looking at him from head to toe, yeah, it’s the right height, and maybe a different build from what I remembered. “For him…” I added staring right into Carl’s eyes. “I’m pregnant for him Aurora!” I added as I turned back to her, her eyes widened and she stared at me, then the man behind me. “I can’t believe this!” She scoffed, her face trying its best to maintain her smile, but her eyes were just filled with curiosity anf disbelief. “My husband is the father of your baby?” She stared between us both in utter shock, but I couldn’t say a word, not because I wasn’t sure of the paternity of my child, but because I never thought I’d have ended up in bed with my best friend's husband. “Say something!” She yelled, but thankfully, the anger wasn’t directed at me, but at Carl, I just stood there frozen in time, trying to understand what exactly I had just done. “You’re married to the mad man?” The words escaped my lips before I could even stop them. “What?” She asked and I turned to her and stared right into her face. “You’re married to the mad king Lucien,” I asked once more and her eyes widened. “When was this baby of yours conceived?” Aurora asked, but what does it matter, it’s her husband alright. She narrowed her eyes on me and I knew I had to answer to be at peace here. “The night I was supposed to meet you back in Vethania,” I finally said and she again scoffed. “You went to Vethania behind us? You made sure Lucien and I left and what? Wait, this doesn’t make sense,” she said aloud as though doubting her own thoughts and words. “I’m sure about this Aurora, I mean, I’m sorry this is happening to us and I never would have come here if I knew…if I knew he’s your husband…” I trailed off as I stared at the floor, unable to meet her gaze, “But that night at the club, I was there, then my phone went off and I couldn’t reach out to you and there I met him, the blue-eyed man that claimed to be king Lucien, and I might have been drunk, but this man checks everything,” I said. “Except for the blue eyes.” “Yeah, except the blue eyes,” I repeated after her, then I realized what that meant. I shot her a look and it seemed as though she was somehow figuring it all out. “It wasn’t Carl,” she heaved out, sighing in relief, I raised an eyebrow at her, wondering what she meant and how she could be so sure. “What do you mean?” “It’s my brother in law, the lycan king!” Carl answered, I stared between them, while the guard just excused himself away from whatever it was that's now going on. “Your brother? So I really did meet him?” I asked, and they both nodded. “How did you know the name Carl Lockwood?” Aurora asked. “The bartender, the man I slept with paid with that card…” I answered, biting my lips at the realization that I had just betrayed the man who helped me identify my one-night stand partner. “Yeah, Lucien rarely goes out and Carl being his right hand man oversees all of his affairs, so knowing Lucien would definitely forget his card at home, I brought Carl's with me, and gave him to pay when he’s almost embarrassed at the club,” Aurora said with a smile and I realized I’d had it all wrong. She brings out her phone and scrolls through it then handed it to me, “is that the man?” I stared into the phone’s screen, knowing without any doubt that was really the man I’d spent the night with, the blue eyes, the straight face that was shaped like that of a Greek god, and the hair I’d buried my hands in that night, it’s him, but I knew I had destroyed my credibility even if I was sure. “Yeah, it’s him,” I simply said and Aurora smiled, took her phone and patted my back. “Unfortunately for you, you’re carrying my niece or nephew,” she sighed, Carl also looked sad and now that left me confused, why were they sad for me? Or was her brother really insane?
