CHAPTER 7: EVERYBODY HAS PROBLEMS

1091 Words
***ANNA*** I rushed out of the club agitated and angry, not at the duo I’d just met, but at myself, at the fact that the mere sight of them could affect me so much, I wanted to cry in there, almost did and I knew they could both see the looming tears in my eyes. “Did you call a cab?” A woman called, I almost didn’t answer since it never occurred to me a woman could be driving a cab, and so I kept on walking the hallways of the street. “Ma’am?” She called again, and this time, she started honking. I decided to turn around, and the woman was looking at me from the car I turned on my phone and checked the app, it was the same car I’d been waiting for, weird, a woman as a cab driver. I sighed, wishing I’d just canceled the ride so I could walk in the cool night breeze for a while, but since I didn’t, I knew I had to get it so as not to waste the driver’s time and efforts. “Yes I did,” I finally answered as I walked to her car, this time, I didn’t get in the back seat, instead, I got in the front seat right beside the driver and slammed the door shut. “Where to ma’am?” She asked, the question seemed to have become a major part of my day today. “The airport, and could you drive fast? I need to catch the last flight tonight,” I said, putting on my seat belt and sinking in my seat, staring out the window as she drove off without saying a word and I just sat there, the encounter I’d just had replaying in my head over and over and over again. “When you think too much about something, that doesn’t mean the thoughts will get it solved, you know? Only actions solve problems, so even if you think, you should think about what action you’ll be taking,” she said, without even turning, I knew she was talking to me, after all, we were the only two people in the car. I turned sideways to look at her, she’s a beautiful woman, neat, and seemed to be rich from the look of how luscious her hair was. “You’re one to advice,” I smirked and instead of being offended with the remarks, she burst out laughing. That took me by surprise, and so I rose to my feet. “And that’s supposed to be funny, uh?” I said to her, and she just continued laughing hard. “Sorry ma’am, it’s just that I really am not one to give advice, you know, I mean, I have my own problems too and haven’t even tried to think about it, talkless of thinking about a plan to stop the problem,” she said. “Everybody has problems, and you have a super power to not think about it?” I said with a smile, “I wish I had that power!” I added and she just smiled. “Out of sight is out of mind ma’am, and that’s why I’m driving this cab, I’d rather make ends meet like this than have to see the one who makes me angry everyday just to live a very comfortable life,” she said and then I got an hint about what her problem was and why such a neat woman was driving a cab this late at night. “Well, if only they’d just get out of my sight,” I said to her, and she smiled. “And if they don’t, Well then, make them want to get out of your sight, when people hurt us, we don’t have to be the victim forever, maybe for a while, but definitely not forever if we can escape them,” she said to me and I nodded along her wise words. This was a smart idea and advice that I was going to keep dear, and for the first time today, I enjoyed a ride and did more than think about my predicament. “We’re here ma’am,” she said as she pulled up at the front of the airport, I sighed feeling sad that the ride had ended and was too short, wishing I could get to know her better, but I knew my time in vethania was up, and might not be back for a very long time, so there was no sense in trying to connect with her. “Thanks,” I said as I took off the seat belt and started to open my purse to pay her. “You don’t have to,” she said, closing my purse for me. “No, no, no, it’s fine, I mean, this helps you live independently, and I should pay, it’s only reasonable,” I said to her, but she just shook her head negatively. “It’s really fine, think of this as my gift to you through your healing process, and I do hope you get to kick the asses of those making you sad, one day,” she said with a smile, I nodded. “Thank you!” I said to her and she smiled back at me, and then her eyes fell on my neck. “Nice necklace, never knew anyone still wore one of those,” she said, staring at it rather awkwardly. “Oh this? I don’t think it’s common, it’s custom made for me, my mother gave it to me,” I said rubbing the necklace again, just like I’d done earlier in the day. Her face changed a bit but she quickly masked it with a smile, “Oh! Of course, I’m so sorry, it just reminds me of some necklace a friend of mine had,” she said with an apologetic smile and I just nodded and opened the car door. “Thanks,” I said again as I got out the car, and then, she sped off, I watched her drive off with smiles on my face, the day was ending, but atleast, I had some good interaction today, after all the stress and craziness my life had gone through today. I watched till her car was out of sight and walked right into the airport. I did the necessary and was soon seated again back in the airplane, awaiting my departure, knowing fully well I’d sleep through this particular flight and arrive Montreal by morning.
