Kim Since I separated, I had to find a new job to cover my expenses. I got a new job in a nearby town and took the position. I didn't want to live in a place filled with memories of Theo. I needed to leave soon. It's been a month since Theo and I last saw each other. Every night, I remember our last encounter in bed. And the way he looked at me. “Are you sure you have to go? You can live here, Kim,” my sister insisted. “I need to leave soon. I'm going crazy.” Kim took me to the town of Hasser, a place full of werewolves, as I once heard Theo mention. I rented a small apartment near my new job. Everything was normal until three weeks later when I fainted, and my boss called an ambulance. I woke up in the hospital, worried. “Is it stress, doctor? I've had a complicated few months,” I commented. The man held the papers firmly. He looked at me, and I knew it wasn't stress. I got worried. “Is something wrong?” “Kim, when was the last time you had a medical exam?” “A few months ago. Why?” After divorcing Theo, I lost my medical coverage. Going to the doctor was expensive for me. Dr. Robinson sat in front of me. “You're anemic, Kim. And your anemia needs control. So it doesn't become a disease.” “Disease? What are you talking about? I've always been a healthy woman.” “You're at risk of developing cancer, miss.” My heart started racing. I didn’t have enough money to pay for medications. "But it's not possible. There must be a mistake. I can't be at risk. It doesn't make sense." "There's something else to tell you." "What else?" I didn't know what more to expect. "You're pregnant, Kim." The news hit me like a bucket of cold water. I opened my mouth in surprise and covered my lips. I thought back to the last night between Theo and me. We didn't use protection, and now he had gotten me pregnant again. I couldn't believe I was expecting Theo's child. After everything that happened, I didn't know how to face the situation. I never imagined this would happen. The doctor left me alone to process the information. My pregnancy was risky because I had lost a child in the past, and I was sick. My financial situation was not great. The father of my baby didn't want anything to do with me and hated me. I couldn't tell Theo the truth. He would shut the door in my face and get rid of me. Three months. Three months since the truth. My belly was more than four months along. During that time, I met a man and started a relationship. He was attentive, handsome, and had money. Francisco was willing to help me with the expenses of my pregnancy. He had fallen deeply in love with me. My boyfriend accepted me pregnant. But I couldn't say the same: I knew my heart didn't love him like he loved me. There was no love. Every day I told myself that I would soon love him. Theo was still so rooted in my mind. And that's why it was hard to love someone else. Francisco knew about my history with Theo and understood me. But it was unfair to him. Francisco was a werewolf and owned a million-dollar company he had built himself. Unfortunately, we had to move back to the city. I wasn't ready to return to the town where Theo broke my heart. I didn't want him to know about my pregnancy. A week after the move, I had a medical appointment at the hospital. My anemia persisted, and I wasn't getting better. Francisco covered all my medical expenses. That day, I received unwanted news. "What? Do I have cancer?" my eyes filled with tears. I fought to avoid it. I took vitamins to get better, but nothing worked. They mentioned the risk to my pregnancy again, and I broke down in tears. I didn’t want to lose another baby. I clung to my belly and thought of Theo. I knew it was foolish, but my heart wanted his company. He should be with me at this moment. Not even Francisco was with me because of his work, but I didn't want to see him. I sat in a cafe and ordered tea to avoid going to see Theo and telling him the truth. I was crying almost discreetly while sipping my tea. When I looked up, my tears stopped, and my heart skipped a beat. I saw Theo looking at me from another table. He was with businessmen in a meeting. I immediately held my belly to cover it. I feared he had seen me. My bump wasn’t huge. But the tight dress I was wearing gave it away. I got nervous and looked away. Theo was imposing when he looked at me. I didn’t know why Theo was staring at me so much. I dared to look at him, and he didn’t take his eyes off me. I paid and got up from the chair, covering my belly with my purse. I felt his gaze burning into the back of my neck. I left the cafe and tried to get into my car, but he stopped me. Theo forced me to face him. After so many months, we were standing face to face again. “Theo,” I said nervously. “It’s been a long time, don’t you think?” I swallowed hard. I kept covering my belly. “I have to go, Theo.” “Are you going to tell me whose baby you’re carrying, Kim?” he stopped me by the wrist. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied. I tried to free myself from Theo's grip, but Theo didn’t let go. “You’re hurting me, Theo.” “That’s not true. I’m not hurting you. I saw your belly, Kim.” “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Theo. I have to go,” I insisted. “Is the baby mine?”
