Morning came quietly over the palace.
The sun had barely risen when one of the king’s personal guards entered Lucian’s chambers.
The prince had barely slept.
He had spent most of the night beside Lyra, making sure she was alright after everything they had discovered in the dungeon.
He was just about to leave her room when the guard bowed.
“Your Highness.”
Lucian turned.
“What is it?”
“The king requests your presence.”
Lucian’s expression immediately became serious.
“My father?”
“Yes, Your Highness. He said it was important.”
Lucian glanced back at Lyra.
She was still asleep.
He quietly pulled the blanket higher around her before leaving the room.
