Julian and Evelyn followed closely behind Gerald into the dining room. Gerald was already settled at the head of the table. Julian pulled out the chair next to Gerald's right and had Evelyn sit down beside him. The dishes on the table were clearly catered to Evelyn's tastes—just the kind of food she liked. She shot Julian a quick smile. Not long after they sat down, Bernard and Caroline showed up with the others. They took their seats across from Julian and Evelyn. Danielle still looked a bit annoyed, though he'd toned it down a bit. Julian, ever the attentive husband, instantly got busy picking out scallions, ginger, and garlic from Evelyn's food. Then he started peeling shrimp for her. Leaning in, Evelyn whispered softly, "It's okay, I can do it myself."
