"I need to go to him."
There was silence and the whole camp went still and even the fire seemed to stop moving and for one long second, nobody spoke, nobody breathed and nobody blinked.
Then Kael laughed once, it was a hard, broken sound, not because he found it funny but because he could not believe what he just heard.
"No."
That was all he said at first, just one word but it landed like a wall and Darius stared at me too.
His face was unreadable for one second and then anger flashed through his eyes, it was sharp, fast and dangerous.
