Lyra's POV
"I will walk into it."
The words stayed in the air long after I said them, no one spoke and no one moved.
But I already knew what happened next because I knew Kael and I knew Darius, neither of them will let me do this.
Not willingly, not calmly, not ever, so I waited and right on time, Kael stepped forward.
"No."
His voice was hard and final, the kind that usually made warriors obeyed without thinking but I was not his warrior, not tonight.
Darius then looked just as tense.
"You are not leaving this camp."
I let out a slow breath, I expected this, I already knew.
"That is not your decision."
Kael's eyes flashed.
"It is when your life is on the line."
