The Dark That Breathes
Lyra's POV
The lights went out, not one but all and the hall fell into darkness so fast that my breath stopped.
For one second, nobody moved and then everything broke.
"What happened?"
"Light the torches!"
"Stay where you are!"
Voices crashed into each other, feet moved, metal hit metal and fear spread like fire.
My heart slammed hard in my chest and I couldn't see.
I then lifted my hand in front of my face and there was nothing, only black.
"Lyra."
It was Darius's voice and it was closer to me.
"Do not move."
"I cannot see," I whispered.
"I am here," he said and then another voice cut in and it was closer, too close.
"Step away from her."
