I open my her eyes to meet the spilling sunlight that almost blinded me with its intensity. My face wrung as I try to shield my eyes from the sunlight. In the process of trying to do this, I mistakenly grind my arm—the arm the bullet cut from last night's attack.
I groan in pain as I turn around, and to avoid the morning sun just for a while, I burry my head in the dried grasses. My senses go hyper as I gradually begin to smell feline blood around me. It is everywhere around me.
The pain is so excruciating that I can't even out myself in a position good enough to help me recall what really happened to me. I blacked out the moment that silver bullet struck my arm. It was so painful that I collapsed that very moment, and didn't even think of getting up or trying to get away.
“Daniel!” I growl as he crosses my mind. He was not shot. I can remember, he screamed my name when I got shot, he was there, he was present, but I can't find him. . .
My heart begins to race, and the air in my lungs begins to thicken gradually. I punch the ground as I get so furious. I mean, I just got back Daniel, rescuing him from Nathaniel. Now, again, he is nowhere to be found. The worse thing is that I can't really figure out what happened last night.
Katerina was there with a two panthers, those we already know. They along with the Tigers hate everyone with the canine blood. It is not a shocker that they came after Daniel and I, especially since I broke her fiancee’s collar bone some days ago. We know the Panthers, but who were those people that came after us and our enemies last night?
They were not panthers. They were walkers, they were actual purebloods with no supernatural abilities, with neither canine nor feline blood.
I get up on my knees with the tiny bit of strength in me, and there on my knees I begin to scan my environment. Both Panthers are on the ground, the ones that accompanied Katerina. There both have bullet marks on their body, and the burn around the wound is so severe, and then it makes me realize that the bullets that brought them down is actually different from the one I got shot with. . .
I try to get up, staggering, as I move to one of the Panthers laying on the ground, the girl. I rip of her sleeve and I try to open the wound a little just to get a glimpse of what the bullet looks like.
The bullet in my arm still burns. It burns so much that I'm tempted to plunge in my fingers and pull it out, but something tells me my fingers won't even reach it.
What ever happened here was not started in one day. It was a plot, it was well planned out by whoever theses people are. They are intelligent, and with this gadgets and arms, they are waging war against our entire species, not just our species but also against the entire feline species as well.
This people are not mere walkers, they seem to be aware of our kind. Something we all, despite being enemies for a long time, have tried to keep a secret. This was not a raid, it was a hunt, a hunt for both wolves, panthers and tigers. They are not on anyone's side, they want to wipe us all out.
I sigh and get up to my feet again. I tried in pain, to the mighty tree closest to me and I slap my back against it. I need a moment to process everything that is happening to know where things are actually going.
Daniel and Katerina are basically the only ones missing. The hunters didn't take me for some reason, and I can only conclude that they didn't know I survived the hit. Where could they have taken Daniel and Katerina? Are they even alright right now?
I stroke my forehead as I figure out what to do next. How do I know if my brother is safe, how do I get to him. I don't even have an idea who these people are. The only thing I know is they are humans. How do I trace humans that knows about our existence and took out this entire plan without us knowing a thing about it. . .
I slip my hand into my back pocket where I kept my phone last night before the attack. I know I probably won't be able to get any signal out here in Craven Forest, but I just won't loss anything by trying. I need help. If only I can get to Marcus. Maybe he'll still be able to track them down, since we have some watchwolves at the other end of the forest where the route leads. Since they came by car, they must have left town. . .
I wonder what is happening to him by now. I swipe on the screen of my phone and I jump onto the phone icon.
Please, please, please. . . I need you to connect.
I mutter as I close my eyes hoping to dial his number and get connected. I try not to look at the bar at the top of the screen.
I look into the screen the moment I hear a buzz. Almost with one eye closed. I know that sound well enough, I just can not bring myself to believe it. . . After glancing at the screen, I yell in anger and cast my phone into the distance.
For me to get out of this position soon and find Daniel, I need my wolf speed. I can't make it out as fast without it. I have to turn. I curl my hands into fists tightly, and I open them again.
Something is wrong. This is how it usually works. I feel like something is stopping me from shifting. I try again. My pupils light up blue this time, but the light is killed the the next second, and then I scream from the excruciating pain at the spot where I got shot.
I realize that it is that thing inside of me. It is the bullet. Somehow it stops me from shifting. . .
