Lycans were treacherous, dangerous, and ruthless!
The werewolves were terrified of them. Petrified even. They were not to be crossed at all and they were known to kill on sight. They were called the devils of the West and only resided there. All werewolf packs had been kept away from their territories and weren’t allowed to mix.
Elsa had personally never seen one, she was shaken to her bones. She couldn’t believe her eyes.
He began to turn back to human form from the shoulder down and Elsa began to tremble uncontrollably in fear.
"Are you okay?" He asked, moving towards her with his hand held out.
"You're a monster!!! Get away from me!" She shouted, backing away from him. She couldn't remain here with a Lycan, he could kill her.
"Elsa…" He said softly, fear evident in his eyes, he looked dejected, abandoned. Elsa knew that look well, she had seen it in the mirror many times.
'But fear of what?' She wondered.
He slowly began to turn back to human form and she took it as an opportunity to run, she ran with every ounce of strength she had left and didn't stop until she had reached home.
She climbed up her window and into her room. Her uncle would beat the life out of her for running away today but it was nothing compared to what she had just experienced. She tried to steady her breath as her heart raced in fear. Playbacks of Jayden's head suddenly being torn apart from his body played in her head non-stop. What the hell had she just witnessed?
She knew that the lycan had seen her face so she couldn't be safe. Her eyes kept darting around her dark room that night, running to the window every minute in paranoia, unable to sleep.

Her next day at school was worse. She kept feeling followed, her eyes searched around frequently, and the feeling of impending danger stayed on her chest, she counted the hours before school dismissed.
The bell finally rang and there was so much she could do not to shout for joy. She hurriedly made her way past the crowd of students in the hallway.
Suddenly, someone bumped into her, slapping a note onto the books in her hands. Her heart pounded hard in her chest. It was him. He was finally here for her.
With a deep breath, she turned the paper to read:
My locker room, now!
Ryder.
Ryder was the next alpha of the pack, hence, he was given his own locker room and attended separate classes, he was basically studying in a different school.
But what the hell could Ryder possibly want from her? Was he not done humiliating her? She decided to ignore it.
She had almost walked past the locker room when she was suddenly grabbed in by her arm.
"What are you doing!" She shrieked as Ryder spun her and pinned her unto the wall briskly, his face inches away from her.
"Let go!" She shouted.
"Be still, puppy" He said seductively. "I have a proposal for you that you might just love."
"Trust me, I won't love anything coming from you." She spat.
He slipped his legs between her thighs and raised it as he leaned even closer, the tips of their noses touching. A gasp escaped from her lips as he raised his leg higher, touching her.
"You're so sexy sometimes I lose control around you, have you ever noticed?" He pressed into her, taunting her. "Be my mistress, my side piece…whatever they call it. You'll live in my mansion just like Veronica and be offered a life almost as good as hers, trust."
Elsa couldn't believe her ears. The insult!
"Are you crazy?!!" She asked, pushing him away from her.
"Are you really pushing me?" He asked her, "Tell me, what other choice do you have huh? Do you even know your reputation in the pack? Nobody wants you! You'll die alone!"
"Then fine!" She screamed, tears streaming down her face.
"The Alpha's only son, the next Alpha even wants this wretched thing in his home, something… like you and you reject?" He asked despicably.
"This wretched thing was what the moon goddess saw fit for you as a mate Ryder, so before you call me wretched, think about how wretched you must look to her too", she replied in anger, "I feel terrible for Veronica, she might be evil but she doesn't deserve this".
He pinned her to the wall furiously, his hazel eyes glowing. Her heart raced at the sight of it, Ryder was growing angry and his anger wasn't anything anyone could handle. The last thing she should want to do was cause one with alpha blood to get furious with her.
"Don't make me hurt you", he said, dragging out every word as he spoke, "Because I can, and nobody will care."
Elsa froze. He was right, he could unalive her right now and even her uncle would see it as a blessing. This was how wretched her life was, there was no one, not even a single soul in the world who would blink twice at her death. Tears ran down her cheeks and her heart ached in pain.
What had she ever done to deserve this?
Immediately the door to the locker room flung open and Veronica stood at the door, eyes widened in shock. Ryder loosened his grip on her and Elsa used the opportunity to escape, she pushed him away and ran out.
"Hey, look! It's wolfless!" A girl shouted from the mob of students in the hallway as she tried to make it through.
"Wow! Such bravery should really come with an award. You couldn't pay me to show myself around this school after such disgrace of yesterday!" Another shouted, purposely making her voice audible enough for everyone to hear.
The mob laughed in scorn and Elsa violently pushed through. She was used to this, but this time it felt different, maybe it was because now there was no escape, there was no 18th birthday to anticipate anymore, there was no mate for her anymore.
She made her way through and got out of the school.
The moon goddess had given her a mate, the next Alpha, only to mock her. Why else would she place the highest-ranking unmated male in the pack with the most useless female of the entire pack?
"If you hated me so much to even kill my parents and leave me to abuse, to take away my wolf and give everyone else theirs, to still mock me for the only thing I've ever asked you for, then you really must have made me a mistake, so why not just kill me!" She shouted at the top of her voice in the streets.
What was the meaning of this life when the person who gave it to her had already marked her for ruin? Everyone was against her, only her, weak and useless, was for herself.
There would be no second chance mate for her, even if there was it'll definitely be someone who scorned her, everyone here did.
She got home and banged the door to her room hard. She looked around her, the broken bed stand, the tattered mattress, the broken light bulb, and the damaged lamp stand. Her entire room was a mess, not even fit for a slave, and even yet, she was extremely grateful to her uncle for not letting her sleep on the streets after her parents' death. What a life!
"Curse you!" She shouted to the moon goddess at the top of her voice, eyes up to her ceiling, "For creating such a mistake, curse you! You… you of all people should be on my side, but you choose to mock me even more."
Immediately, her uncle opened the door. She backed away in fear, she felt that he must have heard her make so much noise, he was going to let her have it for embarrassing him with the neighbors.
"Pack your bags, we're leaving for a trip at sunrise", he said.
"What?... A trip to where?" She asked.
"It's none of your business, I can't leave you alone here, they'll kill you before I get back. Take enough things with you, it's going to be a long one."
She didn't even know what to expect and she was beyond excited, she needed a break from this pack. She began to grab all of her things which couldn't even fill up a small bag.
Her uncle would go on business trips every once in a while but he had never taken her along. She wondered if it was because of what had happened yesterday night, if he had heard…
She heard a sound on her window, someone was throwing stones. She looked outside but the sun had gone down so couldn't see the person clearly, her breath seized, could it be…?
"It's Ryder! Come out! It's urgent" She heard Ryder's voice from outside.
"What do you want?" She asked.
"Please, I need to talk to you. It's very urgent, Elsa." He said, his tone pleading. Elsa climbed down her window.
"What do you want? I'm busy packing, I won't be in anyone's hair by tomorrow." She said impatiently.
"You're really going to go with him?" He asked in disbelief. "Are you so stupid? You don't know how dangerous those creatures are? Have you learnt nothing from history class?"
"What're you talking about, Ryder?"
"Don't be so naive, Elsa. He isn't going to be some Prince Charming, these are lycans, and he's their f*****g King! He kills for a hobby. He's a beast and he definitely looks like one. No one knows what he looks like, he hides away from society because he's so hideous, he's a lycan after all." He said, his voice troubled. Elsa couldn't understand where all this was coming from.
"Just come to me, Elsa. I promise I'll protect you, I'll hide you away until it all dies down, I'll tell my father I want you by my side, he can't refuse me. You have no other choice at this point..." He continued.
"Hold on… what the hell are you talking about? What about lycans? What's happening?" Elsa asked, all this talk about lycans was scaring her.
"Wait… he didn't tell you?" Ryder asked, narrowing his eyes.
"My uncle? What didn't he tell me?... He said… he said we're going on a trip, that's all." She said.
"Elsa!!" He shouted in disappointment. "He's selling you as a slave!"
"What?!!"
"No… he's already sold you."
"No, Ryder stop joking! Who the hell did he sell me to?" Elsa's heart raced in anxiety and sweat dripped down her neck.
Ryder paused and assessed her properly, his face growing somber as he replied, "To the Lycan King".
