Elsa immediately ordered a car to take her to the estate and rushed to Jared’s residence but wasn’t allowed to go in. She couldn’t hear any screams and that consoled her. She got prepared by dawn the next morning to head back to the master’s residence. She hadn’t been able to sleep a wink last night, worry and anxiety had kept her up. “Where are you off to so early in the morning, my lady?” Irene came to her door saying. “You need to stop calling me that”, she replied, “and I’m going to see his majesty.” “Why?!” She exclaimed suddenly, startling Elsa. “I fear I may have done something to cause his… breakdown and I need to know what happened.” “I don’t think you’ll be allowed in, my lady.” “I’m still going to try. I’ll wait in the cold until they open the doors to me.” Elsa said, putting on her robe. “I’m afraid that won’t change anything.” Irene said. “There’s one thing I want to understand, Irene Why do you keep trying to stop me?” She said, turning to her attendant. “I can’t help but notice that you’re clearly hiding something from me.” Elsa sat on the bed. Irene looked at her nervously before coming to sit beside her. “…His majesty has not been out of this estate in years…” She started. “You have told me that.” “And whenever he was to take a walk around the entire estate, we, the servants are locked up in our residences until he is done…” She continued. “His Majesty is said to have major social anxiety… but I do not believe so.” “What…?” Elsa gasped. “You see, 13 years ago, when his majesty was 15, a tragic thing happened… his mother was burnt alive by his father and the poor boy was made to burn along with her. The former king, his father, was ruthless lycan, he believed all was below the king and he ruled his people with terror and was full of rage. He wanted Jar… his majesty to be like him, of Danemount blood, but his mother was a kind and honourable woman so she didn’t allow it. Eventually, something happened and he saw how weak his son had grown because of his mother’s teachings and decided to show him terror. He put the both of them in a house across the border and set it on fire. I don’t think he intended for him to die, but he wanted him to escape, to survive, to be a Danemount, or die.” Irene narrated. “What the hell?” Elsa muttered under her breath, she couldn’t believe her ears. “A couple from one of the werewolf packs, who were on a trip, came to his rescue and while they were hiding him away, they were caught and the same was done to them by his father… before his eyes,” Irene said somberly, and Elsa’s hands flew to her mouth in despair. “2 years later, he murdered his father in the same way and took the throne. But ever since that incident, he has not been the same. He used to attend social gatherings until recently, after his sudden… breakdown at a festival.” “Like last night’s” “Yes. Our king is kind and loving and gracious. He has sworn to be the opposite of his father and our people have never been more satisfied that they cannot even complain about his absence.” Irene said with a strong passion. Suddenly, Elsa was reminded of their first encounter in the forest. “When I first met his majesty, I was about to be r***d and possibly killed”, she said in remembrance. “he saved me… by tearing the leader’s head from his body. It was such a gruesome sight. I thought he was a monster.” “No!” Irene suddenly exclaimed. “Our King would never do such, he’s not a monster. He’s loving and gent…” “I saw what I saw, Irene.” “I don’t know how that is possible but he would never. His Majesty has asked me to take you shopping today because you had complained about being bored, he said you can go wherever you want outside the estate. This was his message from Andrew: ‘I never intended to trap you and I never want you to feel miserable.’” Irene said. “His Majesty likes you, my lady. He brought you here because he does.” “He would usually go to the Naville pack, your pack at least once a year under disguise but stopped recently, only to go this year and have you come 2 days later, isn’t that something?” She added with enthusiasm. Elsa was dumbstruck. What had she just heard? He had told her that she wasn’t brought here as a slave, could it be…? “No way.” She muttered to herself as she got up and rushed out of the house, headed to the mansion. She needed answers. She needed to talk to him. On her way, as she passed by the central garden her nose picked up a strong masculine scent. But this wasn’t an ordinary scent, it was different, incredibly strong, and mouthwatering. Most importantly, a strong connection grew within her towards something and she could feel the blood surge through her veins, this felt oddly familiar. She walked into the garden to see Jared with soiled hands standing with another man, as he toiled the ground and she suddenly remembered when she had felt this… two weeks ago… with Ryder. Her eyes widened in sudden realization. She knew well what this feeling was. But she didn’t know why she was feeling it nor how it was possible. Immediately, he noticed her presence and met her gaze. At the sight of the look on her face, he too knew that he had been caught, there was no hiding anymore. She knew. What he had been fighting so hard to conceal had finally been revealed. ‘But why?’ She wondered. ‘How? How could I be mated to the Lycan King?’
