She was paid to take care of his children—they were his too—but still, it was clear Asher didn't want them. If Sabrina had felt pity for him before, now she only felt distaste. How heartless could one man be? He was willing to throw away his children when he had every means to care for them. The babies were beautiful; what parent wouldn't want to hold their children?
Sabrina had the urge to throw the credit card at Asher's face! She didn't need money to care for her own children. If Asher didn't want them, then she would step up and take responsibility. She would raise them as a single parent and give them all the love they would ever need.
But this was thirty million! With this money, she wouldn't have to work so hard at the hospital anymore. She could start a business to raise the children herself. So even though she disliked Asher greatly, she kept the money. Sliding the credit card into her pocket, she reached out to pick up the adorable angels. They had Asher's hair, and maybe his eyes too. Sabrina hoped that, in time, they'd show some resemblance to her as well.
Asher watched her cradle the babies lovingly, his face devoid of any emotion. He instructed the driver to take them to Sabrina's apartment. She didn't like the fact that he knew where she lived. When the car pulled up in front of the complex, Asher spoke once more.
"If anything happens to them, consider yourself dead!"
Sabrina retorted angrily, "You think I'll let harm come to them?! They are my children too! Besides, you're giving them away, so I doubt you care whatever happens to them."
She hoped he would correct her, say that he cared about the children just as much as she did—maybe even more so. He had birthed them, after all, though she still wasn't sure how. But Asher remained silent. He merely gestured for her to step out of the car. When Sabrina did, the vehicle sped off into the distance. She stood there, staring at the direction the car had driven off, wondering if she would ever see Asher again. Hopefully not.
One of the babies must have been startled awake by all the noise. The baby cried in her arms, and Sabrina quickly went into the building. She took the elevator to her shared apartment. By some miracle, Ryan still wasn't back from work. He worked at a radio station now and sometimes got off work late at night.
"Don't cry, darlings. Mommy's got you," she whispered, hugging the children close. The other baby had woken up as well. Now she had two crying infants and no baby food to give them. Damn Asher! He should have at least given her a heads-up so she could prepare better.
She had no choice but to call Ryan.
"Babe, I just got off work. I'm almost home."
"No, don't come home yet, babe! Please, I need you to stop at a supermarket. I texted you a list of things I need. Whatever questions you have, I'll answer them when you get home."
"Okay." Ryan sounded curious but didn't ask any more questions.
While waiting for his arrival, Sabrina held the children close. A boy and a girl—beautiful angels. Asher hadn't even had the decency to name them. She was sure he had tracked her down the moment he had them. She ran her fingers through the children's dark hair, her heart swelling with love whenever she looked into their beautiful gray eyes.
Ryan arrived at the apartment not much later. He found Sabrina in the living room with the children. He froze slightly, his eyes widening at the sight of the babies, but quickly regained his composure.
"Do you need me to warm the milk?"
Sabrina, expecting a barrage of questions, was shocked by his casualness.
"Um... yeah, thanks. Did you get the diapers and clothes?"
Ryan handed her the large bag containing the items she’d asked for. Sabrina took them and gave the children a soothing bath, then changed them into fresh clothes.
Ryan helped her bottle-feed Alaric while she took care of Alexa. That’s right—since Asher hadn’t bothered naming them, she had come up with names herself. She was their mother, so she had every right. Besides, they were more her children now than they’d ever be Asher’s.
"You're not going to ask any questions?"
"What's there to ask? This is work-related, isn't it? The hospital entrusted you with these cute little angels?"
"Um..."
"Sabrina, what's up?"
"They're mine. The hospital didn’t entrust me with them. This isn’t work-related. The children are mine."
"They barely look a week old. Plus, I’ve known you for nearly a year. You weren’t pregnant with—"
Shit. She hoped Ryan wouldn’t think she’d gone crazy.
"Okay, listen. It’s a long story, and I really shouldn’t say anything to anyone—lest that devil finds a reason to make my life a living hell. But here’s how it goes..."
She narrated the whole thing to him. Ryan listened without interrupting her, though he looked understandably skeptical. Sabrina got it—it was a lot to take in.
"So, you’re saying you got a man pregnant after a one-night stand? And not just any man—the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, the one who’s been terrorizing the Southern Region for years?"
"Yeah."
"God, that’s... that’s so unreal. And the kids?"
"He doesn’t want them. I’m not sure why. Maybe he’s afraid their lives might be endangered if his enemies find out about them."
"Or maybe he just doesn’t want them. He’s a power maniac, Rina. The guy literally gets off on murdering innocent people and burning their homes to the ground. It’s no wonder he got cursed by the Moon Goddess."
Sabrina had lived with Asher for two weeks, and honestly, despite the unpredictable mood swings and holier-than-thou attitude, he didn’t seem like a terrible person. However, he was still bloodthirsty, and he had abandoned his children, so she wasn’t going to defend him.
"You’re not going to break up with me, are you?"
"Of course not, baby. I love you. None of this was your fault. It’s your choice whether you want to raise the kids, but if you do, I’ll support you all the way."
"Thank you so much, Ryan. That means a lot to me."
Ryan placed a soft kiss on her forehead, then handed Alaric, who had fallen asleep, into her arms. "I’ll make us some nice pasta."

The moment Asher stepped into the Pack House, his mother was at his throat.
"How could you do this?!" she shrieked. When she’d heard her son had left the pack with her grandchildren, she had a bad feeling. But when he returned empty-handed, she nearly passed out. "Are you so heartless that you’d throw your own children away?!"
Asher rolled his eyes and continued sorting his paperwork. "I didn’t throw them away. They’re safer where they are now than they’d ever be here in the pack."
"Safe? Who could be more trusted to raise them than me, their grandmother? I raised you, even though you were a little demon, and you turned out just fine!"
"The rest of the Werewolf Empire would beg to differ."
"Shut it, Asher! Go bring back my grandchildren this instant!"
"I will, just not now. I need to ensure I can protect them properly first."
Seeing she wasn’t getting through to him, the Luna sighed remorsefully. "And their mother?"
Asher scoffed. He didn’t want to think about that treacherous woman. To think that i***t was looking after his children made his blood boil. But unfortunately, he couldn’t trust anyone else, so she would have to do for now. Right now, he needed to focus on becoming stronger—on expanding his empire. Only then would he stand a chance against the Lycan King.
