I'll Take You Away Too

Six Years Later, life had never been sweeter for Sabrina. She was running one of the most promising fashion industries in the country, with the support of her darling fiancé. At first, she had wanted to invest in something related to the medical field, but Ryan, with his degree in design, encouraged her to run a fashion business instead. He promised to manage it fully while she had more time to raise their children. It warmed her heart when he had claimed the children as his own. One would never know they weren't his, except for the children’s obvious physical traits that didn’t match either of them. The dark hair and gray eyes were starkly different from her own blond hair and blue eyes, and Ryan’s brown hair and green orbs. But who cared about that anyway? She and Ryan worked hard and were now wealthy, so no one questioned them about the children. Sabrina liked being a stay-at-home mom. It was relaxing and gave her a sense of satisfaction. For the first time, she felt like she was doing something important outside of working at the hospital. She still worked at the town’s local hospital, but only part-time. Today, as she was getting the children ready for school, she received a call from the hospital. They needed her to come in for a special patient. Since Sabrina was one of their most qualified doctors, such requests weren’t rare. She accepted easily. “Mom, is Daddy coming home tonight?” Alexa asked. Yesterday, during art class, she had drawn a pretty picture of her dad that she really wanted to show off. But Ryan hadn’t come home for dinner last night—or for the past week. He stopped by the house occasionally, mostly to grab some things for the office. Sabrina knew work was hectic, and as the CEO, Ryan had a lot on his plate. Still, she wished he would spend more time with the kids. It bothered her, but she knew Ryan would think she was overreacting if she brought it up. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. I’m sure he’ll be home tonight.” Alexa didn’t seem convinced but said nothing. She showed the picture to Alaric, who glanced at it with disinterest. He wasn’t one to swoon over a stickman version of their father. While Alexa was playful, her brother was turning out to be a lot like his biological father—or mother…whatever. He didn’t care about things other kids his age liked. However, he was oddly fixated on werewolves and pack dynamics. He was happiest whenever Sabrina took them to their grandparents’ place. Hopefully, he wouldn’t grow up like that crazy father of his. Sabrina mostly pushed all memories of Asher to the back of her mind. She did stumble upon news of him occasionally. It was the usual—he was still obsessed with expanding territories, and more packs had fallen under his control. Other packs hated him, but his power kept growing. At one point, there was a rumor that he had usurped the Lycan King, who now acted as a puppet with Asher pulling the strings. It might have just been a rumor. One thing Sabrina did know was that Asher avoided women like the plague. Countless women had tried to seduce him, and while he was known to be sexually active despite having a mate, he now scowled at the thought of bedding anyone. It seemed having children had traumatized the man. And wasn’t that funny? “All right, kids, have a great day at school. Alaric, no more cursing at the teachers, please.” “I didn’t curse at them. I corrected them,” the dark-haired boy said casually. Sabrina smiled lovingly as her children disappeared into the school. She drove to the hospital, stopping by a café to grab some much-needed coffee. “Sabrina, babe, looking good today!” Olivia greeted her cheerfully. “Good morning, Olivia. What’s new?” Sabrina was used to her friend’s antics. Olivia was only this cheerful early in the morning when she had gossip to share. “We got a new patient yesterday. I swear on my life, I’ve never seen a guy that hot. He was smoking! And he seemed rich too—he had a private ward and everything.” “Why was Mr. Hot Stuff at the hospital?” “I don’t know much, but I heard he got shot with silver. He came to get the bullets out. Don’t know why he didn’t stay, though. His injury clearly wasn’t healed. He said he’d come back today and insisted on having the best doctor. Clint and Eva are out of town, so it’s just you and Charles. But Charles was on duty yesterday, and the guy refused to be seen by him. He insisted on having you. I guess he’s just looking for a hot chick to check him out. God, what I’d do to be in your position.” “It sounds more like he just didn’t want to stay overnight. Probably a lousy businessman who thinks he’s too important to spend a night at the hospital. Nothing to get worked up about.” “Maybe. But trust me, the man is hot. You’ll be drooling when you see him.” “You’re gross.” Sabrina nudged her friend playfully, giggling at Olivia’s exaggerated expressions. She grabbed some breakfast while waiting for her patient to arrive. Two hours later, she was directed to the VIP ward. The cream-colored walls and the scent of flowers contrasted with the usual sterile hospital environment. From what she’d heard, the bullet wound could get infected if not properly treated. Any doctor could handle it, but who was she to argue with pompous rich people? Sabrina smoothed her coat, ensuring no wrinkles were visible. The room had a floral arrangement in the corner, but the faint scent of an irritated Alpha filled the air—a reminder of why she preferred dealing with Betas and Omegas. Two men in black suits stood guard, ignoring her as she entered. Her patient had a paper over his face, with a pile of documents on his lap. He was doing paperwork—in a hospital! “Um...Mr…” Sabrina realized she hadn’t asked Olivia for the man’s name. Awkward. “I’m Dr. Sabrina. I’ll be conducting some examinations. If nothing’s life-threatening, you should heal on your own.” “Stating the obvious.” Sabrina froze. That voice—it had been six years, but how could she forget? Asher lowered the paper and looked directly at her. He was even more striking than she remembered, if that was possible. His lips curled at her horrified expression. “Miss me?” Her whole body trembled, but she managed to keep her voice steady. Oh God, this cannot be happening. “You...Why are you here?” “On business. Unfortunately, I got into a little accident. What a coincidence to find you here.” “Coincidence? Do you expect me to believe that?!” How stupid did he think she was? Asher wouldn’t just show up here without a purpose, and sadly, she could guess what it might be. The thought terrified her. After six years, she had grown comfortable in her life and couldn’t imagine losing her two miracles. “Why are you here, Asher? What do you want?” “Don’t panic.” He rolled his eyes at her shaky form. “I won’t take them away.” Sabrina sighed in relief—that was her main concern. But Asher wasn’t done. “Not without you. I’ll take you too.” Sabrina was dumbfounded. What the hell?
