The murder

She was still deep in thought when she heard her phone beep. She looked at the screen and saw a text popped up in it. Her brows gathered as she saw a text from Rita. "Melisa, I need you right now at my place. There is something I have to tell you," the text read. She sat up immediately with the phone stuck in her hand. "What does this b***h have to say?" She said to herself. She doesn't want anything to do with Rita and right now, all she felt was nothing but disgust for her. But could she really have something important she needs to know? She thought as she let out a sigh. Going over to her place to teach her a little more lesson won't be a bad idea, she thought as she stood up from the bed and walked over to the wardrobe. She dressed up in a white short maxi dress and a black beaded scarf tied around her head. She wore her sunglasses and stepped out of the room with her sling purse hung over her shoulder. May was asleep and she needed to get out and return quickly before she woke up, she thought and hurried out of the house. * In the car where they sat, they could see the white Mercedes benz driving into the estate gate. "She's here," Diana said with a smirk as she looked at Jerry who was sitting comfortably beside her. He nodded as his eyes continued to trail after the car driving into the estate. "It's time to make the call," she said with a smirk and he nodded. * She was welcomed by the quietness of the house as she walked past the door. Everything seems odd as Rita had never left her door opened in this manner, she thought. Stepping into the living room, she froze and her phone fell from her hands as she saw Rita's body lying on the floor, covered in a pool of blood. "No!!" She screamed as she hurried over to the body and knelt on the floor with her hands holding her face. "Who did this to you?! Who did this to you?!" She cried vehemently as she shook the lifeless body lying on the floor. Just then, she heard Rita coughing with blood spilling out of her mouth and her eyes opened wearily. "Rita!!" She cried with tears pouring down her face tremendously. "Lisa.. Li..," She tried to call and she began to couch again. "Rita, who did this to you?!" She cried as she looked at the stab wound on the left side of her belly. Rita opened her mouth to speak but the words wouldn't come out and she began to gasp for breath. "Rita, I need to take you away from here!" Melisa cried as she tried to stand up from the floor. Rita's cold bloody hand pulled her back and she stopped. "Lisa..there..there is something you should know..," She struggled to speak. Her brows raised as she looked at Rita's face sternly. "Rita, what is it? Talk to me..," She urged as she placed both hands on her face. "May.,." She coughed again. "What..what happened to May?" She asked at once. Rita tried to speak but began coughing vehemently. "Rita!!" Melisa cried as she saw her lips shutting slowly. "Rita, don't die on me!" She cried and began to hit her face vehemently. "Rita!! Rita!!" She cried but there was no response and fear gripped her as she felt the body become cold in her arms. "No..no, this is not happening," she cried as she reached for her phone in her purse. She was about to dial a number when she heard police sirens converging the building. She stood up immediately and hurried to the door with her hands trembling greatly. Within a twinkle of an eye, the door burst open and men in police uniform stormed into the house, heavily armed. "Your hands in the air, madam!" The officer in front ordered and she became dumbfounded for a moment. "Your hands in the air!" He yelled again as he pointed the gun at her face. "No..my friend is lying over there in a pool of blood. I need to go rescue her!" She cried. "You have the right to remain silent, madam. As anything you say or do right now will be used against you in the court of law. Put your hands in the air!" The officer bellowed out the order. "What are you doing?!" She screamed as two of the policemen rushed towards her and placed cuffs around her wrists. "You can't do this to me, no, you can't do this to me! Where are you taking me? I have a little daughter waiting for me to come home, you can't just take me away!!" She screamed as the men walked her out of the house. ** "Oh, look at the news, it's all over the internet. I'm confused as to who leaked the family affairs into the public. Well, it's such a shame that we allow Melisa to drag us deep into this mud. I should have kicked her out of the house earlier," Elsa Boseman's voice could be heard as she walked alongside her husband into the living room. He didn't say a word as she continued speaking beside him. He walked over to Daren who was sitting beside the window, looking so crestfallen. "Son," he called and Daren took a slow glance at his face. "Oh, Daren, how long will you keep weeping over that adulterous woman?" Elsa sounded in a high tone. He remained silent and looked away from their faces. "I'm giving you only the grace of today. Tomorrow, I need the divorce papers to be served. Now that she is finally gone from your life, we can get you a beautiful fruitful woman who will bear us beautiful children," she said with a smile. Charles Boseman scoffed as he heard her words. "And what's the meaning of that?!" She barked with her brows gathered together. "Nothing, I'm just hoping, what happened in the case of Melisa wouldn't repeat itself as it seems right now, she is not the problem," he shot and silence fell in for a moment. Her small dark eyes continued to feast on his face as she wondered what he meant. "Son, you have to put yourself together, okay," Charles advised as he walked closer to Daren whose gaze was fixed on the floor. "Charles, I need you to explain the meaning of your words, now!" Elsa thundered as she turned to face him. "Elsa, I'm tired and I need to rest," he said and walked away while she sped up after him. From where he sat, he could hear their voices as they engaged in a heated dispute. He heaved a deep sigh and reached for his phone which was ringing in his pocket. He saw Evan's name appear on the caller ID and he picked the call immediately. "Hello, Daren, there is a problem. Melisa was arrested this afternoon in relation to the murder of Rita who was stabbed to death in her apartment this afternoon," his anxious voice sounded on the phone. "What?!" He exclaimed. "I'm heading to the police department with her father. He was the one who informed me of the situation," he continued. "Ri..Rita is dead?" Daren asked in dismay. "Yes, you and I know Lisa couldn't have been the one behind the murder. She is innocent," Evan said but he didn't reply. "And the child?" He asked skeptically. "She's still at her grandfather's home," Evan replied. "Um, would you like to come along?" He asked. He frowned and let out a sigh. "You go ahead and keep me updated about the situation," he said. "Okay, take care, bro," Evan said and the call ended. He sighed heavily and his gaze narrowed to his parents who were still arguing in the living room. He gulped as he thought of everything Evan had just told him. Did Lisa actually murder Rita? He reasoned. He doesn't know his wife to be a murderer, but after this issue of infidelity, he realized he doesn't even know his wife as he claimed to do. * They both watched as she was led into the visitors room with her face looking so pale and her messy hair falling on both sides of her face. "My daughter," Mr. Bronze cried as he caught sight of his daughter whose arms were placed together in cuffs. "Father," Melisa cried as hot tears trickled down her cheeks. "Lisa," Evan called and she looked at his face bitterly. "I didn't do it, I didn't do it!" She cried as she sat on the armchair facing them. "I know, I know," her father said calmly. "How did it happen?" Evan asked curiously. She related the whole incident to them "What?! Just like that?!" Her father thundered. "Yes, the police claimed to have received a worrisome call from an anonymous neighbor, concerning a suspected murder case at Rita's apartment. I happened to be in the house at that moment and they came in and rounded me up," she related bitterly. "What about the text? They didn't find the text Rita sent you?" Evan asked. "No..the text Rita sent me was deleted from her end and it's still right here on my phone but the police are not taking it. They thought I framed it all," she related. "Someone is trying to set my daughter up," Mr. Bronze cried. "Yes, this is a set up. They didn't find any weapon on you, did they?" Evan asked. "No, but they think I must have hidden the weapon somewhere," she said. "Who do you suspect could be behind this?" Evan asked curiously. "I..I..I have only one suspect, and that is Jerry," she replied. "The..the..other guy?" Evan asked with his brows raised. "Yes, he had dealings with Rita and they were both blackmailing me together. They had a little dispute about money before the whole thing blew up," she related. "Lisa, we have no time. Tomorrow, your lawyer will be here and you will give him every detailed information that he needs to get you out of here," her father said. "Father, I don't want to go to prison," she cried profusely. "You will not go to prison!" He assured her. "I've spoken to the officers and they are not going to manhandle you. This is a very simple case and you will be out soon. Your father is the one assuring you," he said confidently and she nodded. "We will be back tomorrow," Evan said as they both stood up. "And don't worry about your daughter. She is safe with us," her father assured and she nodded again. As soon as they left, she was taken back to her cell room. It was a solitary room and she sat on the small bunker bed and began to weep. What does her future hold? Life in prison? She thought and her tears increased.
