We already got to the entrance of the park, and I'm still waiting for his reply.
"I can try. I might not be the best, but you won't get caught." He says, and I sigh in relief.
We exchanged contact information, and with that, I got to know his name is Theoryne. We parted ways after coming to an agreement. While I walked out of the park, he went back in, so technically, he just wanted to escort me.
I couldn't help but remember his looks. Neatly cut black low afro. Muscular arms and fit body frame. He has beautiful brown eyes with a nice black dot above his well-defined eyebrows. I'm sorry to have been checking him out, but his lips had a very lovely attraction to it, not that I wanted to dig in, absolutely not.
Dressed in a black jogger and red short sleeve top, he had on a pair of white Nike's and a small wristwatch adorning his hand. Last but not least, a very attractive small black hoop earring on his right ear, giving him a very strong charismatic, handsome look.
When I arrive at my house, I am immediately enveloped by Maddy.
"Madds, I'm suffocating." I let out after noticing that Maddy had no plans of breaking the hug.
"Sorry, babe. What do we do about your predicament?" Maddy asks as she pulls me to the living room to sit.
"It's solved. I got a boyfriend and now my parents will leave me for some time." The excitement of my voice couldn't be concealed.
"A boyfriend?" Maddy, like I guessed, is sceptical and suspicious. Do I blame her? No!
"Yeah, a boyfriend. We are faking dating, but he promised to help me out. I met him at the park." I explain in such a way that I couldn't believe it was possible for a person to degrade trusting a total stranger so strongly like I did.
"I don't even know if I should speak to you about your choice, but I'll opt not to, after all my words wouldn't really beat what you have in mind." Maddy rolls her eyes, then we continue to some lighter topics.
"What about Jeremy?" I ask about her boyfriend. It's been a while since I heard from him. We all went to the same college. We met Jeremy there. Madilyn and I have been friends for over seventy per cent of my life.
"He's on a business trip. I didn't want to go because I wanted to see you to know your plans for Lisa's event." Maddy and Jeremy work together in their joint law firm. They built it together and have been having steady patronage from people.
"Alright. We would be having a family dinner just before Lisa's bachelorette, and I think that's the perfect time to introduce my boyfriend." I suggest, already making plans to inform Theoryne about the plan.
"On the same night?" Maddy's disapproval is very evident from the tone of her voice.
"No, the night before the bachelorette. That's tomorrow night. I'll text Theoryne tonight." We both glance at ourselves and give each other approving nods.
"It's set then. I would love to stay longer but I have to head home, there's a conference call I need to attend in two hours." Maddy explains as she tidies herself to start her journey back home.
"Thanks for coming. Love you, babe." I greet Maddy when we reach the door.
"Love you too." Blowing a kiss to me, Maddy hops into her Chevrolet sports car and speeds off into the distance.
Maddy's house is an hour plus drive to my house. The distance is quite much, so we have our own personal crib at an equal distance from both our houses. Our joint house is the dream of any two friends who want to live a warm and comfortable life together.
Turning on some music, a remedy I use for all problems, I grab my phone, intending to send a message to Theoryne.
Me: Hi, Theoryne. It's Mona. We met earlier at the park.
I waited about two minutes before I saw a reply from him.
Theoryne: You can just call me Tory. Do you need something?
Tory.....Tory. It sounds beautiful for all I care, so I'll definitely find it easy adapting to the name. No lies, I think I've fallen in love with his name. Theoryne shortened to Tory. Love times one million!
Me: Sorry to ask your favour less than six hours since we met but I'll need you to attend a family dinner with me as my boyfriend tomorrow evening.
Theoryne: Time and location.
I was expecting his reply to take a while, but it came quicker than the first.
Me: You can come to my house first, then we can go together. Don't worry, I have a car. I can send someone to pick you up.
Theoryne: You wouldn't need that, I also have a car. I'll get there an hour earlier so we can get to know each other.
That was a brilliant idea, and I couldn't help but applaud him.
Me: Ok, I'll be waiting. The dress code is something formal.
Theoryne: Sure.
That was where our chat ended, not without putting a smile on my face and imagining what expression Theoryne would be holding.
"If this night is not forever, at least we are together, I know we're not alone~" I sing, jumping on my bed as my house speaker plays the song loudly drowning my equally loud voice.
Times like this are when I appreciate the fact that my parents are my neighbors. They can't complain because they know the kind of daughter they have. I think I should really start doing covers of songs and posting online. I'm really good at being a voiceover.
Slumping on my bed after God knows how long, I take in sharp breaths before I finally get up from my bed and arrange it to its initial cleanliness.
I'm not disorderly, I just have times when I want to behave childlike. Don't blame me cause I don't ever regret it. We all need to let loose sometimes, and I do mine quite often to keep my health intact, probably better than being intact.
Waltzing into my kitchen dressed to the nines like I'm going for a fashion show, I bring out a pan and pot ready to make myself dinner.
If I have no one to date, I'll date myself. Isn't that such a great idea?
Whipping up some garnished jollof rice with smoked chicken and coleslaw, I dice some watermelon in a bowl and serve myself a cup of chilled sprite. Today, I went into the spirit of a Nigerian, and I'm glad I did because the heavenly taste of the well-made jollof rice is not something words couldn't describe.
