  Aisha's POV   I hesitated before opening the door. My heart pounded in my chest as I braced myself for whatever was coming.   When I finally turned the handle, Simon stood before me. His broad frame filled the doorway, his expression unreadable. But there was something in his eyes—something somber, almost conflicted.   I swallowed hard.
