The hearty ripple of laughter welcomed Rachel by the door before she even opened it
It was a pure mix of feminine voice and that of her husband who left her stranded to come home by herself.
Rachel did not hesitate to barge in on their celebration.
As she did so, her brooding heart only bled more than before.
Chris was curled up on one of the sofas. Short unbuttoned to the waist.
On top of him was his first love Serena, wearing a fitted black gown with a massive slit that revealed all her creamy thigh.
Serena's hateful gaze landed on Rachel. She took her dressing in one sweep.
Then cupped Chris's chin like a baby.
“Darling.” She pouted.
“What is this wench doing here?”
Chris followed her gaze to Rachel.
“Oh, maybe she came to drop the divorce papers. Right, Rachel?”
Rachel squared her shoulders and put up a brave front.
The words of Grandma Damascus replayed in her head.
“No, Chris. I am not signing the divorce papers.”
Chris gently carried Serena off his body, a sarcastic chuckle came out of his throat.
“Excuse me, you must be joking, right?”
Rachel shook her head, the divorce papers in her hand shook like a leaf in the wind.
“I'm not signing anything Chris, this marriage, it has to work. Just like your grandmother wants, and I want it to work too.”
Serena's jaw clenched as she listened to Rachel rant on about saving an already broken marriage.
“Chris, it's either she leaves or I do.” She threatened.
Chris held her tightly to his chest, his eyes flared at Rachel with so much disgust.
“Rachel, sign the damn divorce papers, I won't tell you again.”
Rachel could not understand why he hated her so much. Despite everything she's done to be a good wife.
With shaky fingers, she raised the divorce papers right in front of them and tore it into two.
“Rachel!” Chris roared.
It took two long strides for him to cover the gap between them.
His right hand connected to her cheek in a striking blow.
Rachel reeled backwards, her balance lost. Hands thrown in the air in confusion as she sprawled like a lifeless chicken on the ground.
Chris did not give her time to reflect on what happened.
He snatched her dress from the chest and shook the living daylight out of her body.
“How dare you rip the divorce papers apart?” he spat into her face.
Blood stained the corner of Rachel's lips, and she had dark blood on her forehead.
Which hit the chair as she fell down.
“Chris, please, we can make this work, I love you.” She wheezed.
Her words only riled him up the more.
His hands circled her neck in a strong hold.
“I'm going to choke you to death.” He snarled, seething saliva through his teeth
Rachel tapped on his hand repeatedly for him to stop, he only tightened his grip around her neck
“I don't f*****g love you, do you hear me?” he roared
Serena just crossed her arms on her chest, chewing gum like a hypocrite as she watched Chris unleash his anger on Rachel.
Chris continued to press his weight on her neck until she went limp.
He let go of her and her body hit the floor with a small thud.
Then he kicked her with so much force on the leg
“I hope you aren't dead yet? Because you still have to sign the divorce papers. I'll be back with another one.”
A long groan came from Rachel, which signified that she was still alive.
Chris stretched out his hand to reach for Serena.
“Let's go babe, I know a perfect place where we can have fun.”
Serena giggled heartily as she stepped over Rachel's limp body on the ground.
It took about three hours before Rachel had enough strength to get up from the floor.
Her eyes were reddened with tears, her head and cheek throbbed so hard from the pain of hitting the chair.
Years of enduring abuse from Chris, and still no love from her husband.
She managed to drag her bruised body to their bedroom where she applied some ointment on her face.
As she looked in the mirror one more time and saw her blackened forehead, she couldn't help but burst into another round of tears.
Despite her efforts, Chris was determined to go on with the divorce.
Well, she wouldn't let him. She made a promise to his grandmother and she believed that he'd still love her.
After taking some pain meds to help sedate the pain, Rachel laid on the bed to sleep.
For how long?
She has no idea.
Just the minute she closed her eyes, she felt a pair of hands grabbing her legs and dragging her to the ground.
Her eyes flew open in shock.
“Chris, what are you doing?” She screamed.
His breath reeked of alcohol.
“This room belongs to Serena and I. Get your worthless self out of here.”
Rachel scrambled to her feet. They were both drunk and happy at the same time.
“This is my matrimonial bedroom, Chris. If you want me out of here. You'd have to carry out my dead body.”
A hot s***k came from Serena's palm. The same cheek Chris struck earlier.
“Why are you so stubborn? My darling and I are about to have a sweet time. Unless you want to stay and watch.” She giggled.
She and Chris looked at each other lazily and burst into uncontrollable laughter.
Chris grabbed her by the waist and pulled her close, sucking on her lips and tongue like his life depended on it.
Right there in front of Rachel.
They continued kissing and were beginning to strip each other of the clothes they had on.
Rachel realized that they were actually going to have s*x right in front of her.
At this point, if she acts stubbornly and stays watch, she'd be the one lying on the hospital bed sick.
Defeated and broken, Rachel walked out of her own matrimonial bedroom for them.
