Rowan’s POV I carried her through the front doors of the Blackwood mansion, my boots echoing like thunder against the marble floors. The house was usually a place of cold, orderly silence, but the moment I stepped in with a disheveled, soot-covered girl in my arms, the atmosphere shifted. The head maids stopped mid-task, their eyes widening until they looked like saucers. I saw the whispers starting before I even hit the first landing of the grand staircase.
