The annual intramural games at Wolves University were happening, and everyone was hyped up. Students donned their team colors, cheering loudly as they gathered to watch the events unfold. I walked alongside Skyla, feeling a mix of anticipation and anxiety.
“Okay, Amore, we need a killer plan this time,” Skyla said, her blue eyes sparkling with mischief. “No more flops. We can’t let Prime slip away again.”
I rolled my eyes, smirking. “What do you suggest? A serenade in the middle of the field?”
“Hey, why not? The more spontaneous, the better!” she replied with a wink. “But seriously, we need to think outside the box. You have to show him that you’re not just a pretty face.”
“Fine. What do you have in mind?” I asked, intrigued despite myself.
Skyla leaned in, lowering her voice conspiratorially. “Let’s make him jealous. You could join the cheer squad. Just imagine him watching you rally the crowd, seeing you in that cute uniform.”
“Me in a cheerleading outfit?” I laughed. “I don’t think anyone is ready for that.”
“Exactly! You’d be the unexpected star, and he’d have to notice you. Plus, the way you’d move in that outfit—let’s just say it’d drive him wild.” She nudged my side with her elbow, her excitement infectious.
I bit my lip, feeling a rush of adrenaline. “Okay, that could work. But what if he thinks I’m just trying to show off?”
“Then show off! You’re gorgeous, Amore. You have to flaunt it. And trust me, the mate bond is a powerful thing; he won’t be able to resist once he sees you in action,” she insisted, her eyes gleaming.
Before I could respond, we heard a loud commotion near the entrance to the field. A group of students were laughing and cheering, and it was clear that the games were about to begin. The atmosphere was electric, and I could feel my heart racing in anticipation.
“Let’s go!” Skyla shouted, pulling me along with her.
As we entered the field area, I scanned the crowd, excitement bubbling in my chest. But just as I started to enjoy the festivities, disaster struck. A stray ball came soaring in our direction, and instinct kicked in. I ducked, but Skyla didn’t have time to react, and in the chaos, she got shoved away.
“Skyla!” I shouted, but she was swallowed by the sea of students.
Panicking, I turned to find her, but the crowd was too thick, and before I knew it, I was separated from her. I tried to navigate my way through, but the laughter and shouts only amplified my anxiety.
In my frantic search, I noticed a group of students heading toward the jail booth, part of some impromptu game. I figured it might be a good distraction, so I headed that way, hoping to regroup with Skyla soon.
However, as I approached the booth, I felt a presence behind me. I turned, and before I could react, I was shoved inside the small enclosure, landing awkwardly against the wall. A flurry of laughter erupted outside, and I was caught in a moment of pure chaos.
“Great. Just great,” I muttered under my breath, trying to regain my composure. But when I turned to face the front, I found myself staring at the last person I expected to see, Prime.
He stood there, arms crossed and an unimpressed look on his face, leaning casually against the booth’s frame. “Nice hiding spot, Amore,” he remarked, a smirk dancing on his lips.
“Very funny,” I shot back, feeling my cheeks flush. “I didn’t exactly plan this.”
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “I can see that. What were you hoping to accomplish? Avoid the games by locking yourself up?”
“Hardly. Just trying to get away from the crowd. And it seems I succeeded—at least for the moment,” I replied, my tone sharper than intended.
Prime’s gaze flickered over me, the faintest hint of a smirk lingering. “You look like you’re dressed for a night out, not a school event. You know there are rules about how to dress for intramurals, right?”
“Maybe I just wanted to stand out,” I shot back, a defiant edge in my voice. “Not everyone wants to blend in with the crowd.”
He smirked, leaning in slightly as if intrigued. “Oh, you’re definitely standing out. But it’s more like you’re trying to steal the spotlight instead of enjoying the games.”
“Is that a compliment or a dig?” I challenged, crossing my arms.
“Depends on how you take it,” he replied, his tone nonchalant. “But I’d advise you to tone it down if you don’t want to distract the players.”
“Please, as if they could focus with you around,” I retorted, unable to hide a smile. “You’re the real distraction here.”
He chuckled, a rare sound that made my heart race. “But you know what... you look more gorgeous in something simpler. Like that loose shirt you wore the other day. It really showed off your natural beauty without trying too hard.”
With that, he turned away, leaving me stunned as I watched him walk off, his silver eyes catching the light and shimmering like stars. My mind raced. Did he really just say that?
His compliment stirred a whirlwind of emotions inside me. Admiration for him swelled, mixing with a fierce desire to make him mine. I had to do more than just stand out. I needed to capture his heart.
As I finally emerged from the booth, I took a deep breath and scanned the field again, searching for Skyla. I felt a newfound determination. I wouldn’t just be another pretty face, I would be the one who caught Prime’s attention and held it. This time, I would make him see me for who I truly was—someone worthy of his affection.
