The headlights swept across the living room wall at 1:14 AM. I knew the time because I had been staring at the digital clock on the cable box for the last two hours. I was curled up on the sofa, wrapped in the gray blanket, drifting in and out of a restless doze. The low rumble of the truck engine cut out. A heavy car door slammed. My heart kick-started into a gallop. I sat up, pushing the hair out of my face. The house was silent, save for the hum of the refrigerator.
